Well, I really wouldn't call it hunting. I've spent a couple of hours out on the surfline and in the dry sand. First I tried the V3, it was ok in the surf. I could run the disc sens on 88 +- and the RX gain on 10-12 but it would make a little noise going in and out of the water. It worked ok on the dry sand in the C&J program. I could run the disc sens high and the RX high using the 950 V-rated coil. HOWEVER.... this machine is, IMO, for the younger or stronger hunter in conditions where you need to keep the coil raised a bit. For the senior citizen or those who have put wear and tear on their spine... it is a little much. It is fine on grass or even wooded areas where you can skim the ground. This is just my opinion.
I went back to my old beach buddy, the Sovereign GT chestmounted with an offset 180 meter. It is comfortable and more stable in or out of the water, in the surf or the dry sand... it just works. The beach we are at has had new sand put on it sometime in the last couple of years. I can tell because there is a two ft drop off at the high tide line. I worked along ashort area just along the water side of the dropoff but I mostly dug BudLight bottletops and square tabs, I was pretty sure what they were but you know the story... gotta dig the tabs to get the rings.... just no rings yet. I'm going to go work a more populated part of the beach on Monday and the rest of next week. Record high heat today... HOT and humid. We are on the gulf coast of Florida, the panhandle, a place called Mexico Beach. My wife and I have both been coming here since we were children, now we are bringing our grandchildren here.
I also have my F75 LTD with me and sill be using it some in case anyone has anything you may want me to try with any of the three machines, the LTD, the SovGT, or the White's V3... I will be happy to do whatever test you may want me to try.
Well... HH and I hope it isn't as hot where you are.
PS... no oil here. BP people are here though... driving on the beach in golf carts looking straight ahead... doing nothing and getting paid, they may be government people though. They are nice enough and i'm not complaining... they are just here in case some oil shows up... it's funny though.. i heard on the news this AM that the people out in the gulf cannot find the oil now, I think God's creation is more than capable of cleaning itself with a little help from it's friends.
