Went to a new spot this weekend, Ii hunted for a few hours yesterday morning and found the Gardner the eagle button, sword belt hook, carved bullet, the round ball and the button back, Has anyone ever seen a back like this I`m thinking it has a confederate flavor to it??? So I decided to go back this morning and the first thing I dug was the 1838 large cent, then I started digging bullets, then I got the deep hit and I dug and dug and about 18 inches down I saw the imprint of the breast plate I knew it was there some where,it would have had 3 hooks but they are gone someone told me that it is an early plate can anyone confirm that? WHAT A RUSH my first one in 14 years of hunting. then 2 steps away I dug part of the epaulet took another step and dug the rest of it. I also got a lead seal but I can`t quite make it out looks like (salzom and it has crossed hammers on it) a couple spencer casings and the Burnside casings stacked..WHEW I`M STILL TREMBLIN...HH...Bruce

That sure is one pretty Breastplate

Great job Buddy! I hope that it is the 1st of many more to come for you. Now if I could just get mine..... I know you have worked hard and you really deserve that plate. WTG!

Hey bruce ,I would say that you got the Neatist find this weekend. you better keep that prize to that contest you put up. Maby your son can write a paper on that one. Keep at it .Hope its not 14more till the next one huh? Shweet. HH..............Ed

Hi Bruce; Nice finds! Your plate with missing hooks would have doubled iron hooks if manufactured for the 1834 bayonet over the shoulder belt, or a doubled single hook and two single wire hooks if used later. NCO's and Musicians continued to use them with over the shoulder sword belts, and in rare occasions, as waist belt plates. They are also used by the Confederates with soldered on brass hooks. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

Looks like you might have found a virgin spot there lil' Bro. Wish we had good stuff like that out here in the flat lands. Save a few for me, just mark out a 10'x10' spot and don't touch it. Give me a shout and let me know where you went. Maybe when I get home I'll have another MXT and you can show me how it's supposed to work.
Later
