How much depth from a CZ-21?

I just traded for a CZ-21 a few weeks ago and I'm pretty much a beginner so I'm not sure of what I should be expecting from a detector like this one. I've read there's been a few get out that weren't properly set-up at the factory. Also can some tell whats the right way to do an air test? By the way, I have an 8" coil on it.

Thanks
Joe

I did the same thing. Mine, also with an 8" coil, is supposed to be dropped off by the UPS man (ours happens to be male) tonight. So anything anyone will tell you will help me out also. I plan to take it to an area, on land, that I normally spend some time. First time through I'll use different color golf Ts to mark possible targets. Then I'll go back over the same area with my E-Trac and see what it says. I know the E-Trac so if it says it's a penny, it usually is. Also have dimes, nickles, and quarters pretty well figured out. Am digging quite a few pull tabs as I am hunting shallow and hoping for the recent ring loss. It will be fun to do a comparision thing. jim

I just got a Cz20 a few months ago, been out a few times..if your experienced at detecting it won't take long to pick up on how to use it. The ground balancing can be a little confusing at first, Other then that I really like it for lakes, Bays and calm water. I think the Excal is still deeper but sometimes it not about how deep you can get. I think you will like it......I have a link some where that kinda puts the depth on a few machines in perspective, may take me a day to find it........video is from my second hunt....joe

I've had a CZ20 for about 6 years now. The one and only water machine I've owned. Bought it new with the 8" coil, but sent it in couple of years later to get the 10 1/2" put on. Never regretted it since. Ground balance is very easy and goes deeppppppppp. (IMO).The only negative is it's not hot on small gold or necklaces., but I will not trade if for anything else. three tones and when you get that MID-TONES signal your ears will perk up thinking GOLD!!. JMO

I've seen your video before Joe (Oldbeachnut), did you make that floating sifter? I need to build one myself soon. What kind of depth are you all getitng in air tests with clad dimes and or quarters?
Joe (in MD), what is it about the 10.5 that you like?

BUT I have found VERY deep coins by knowing the sounds it makes. You will hear deep silver if you listen, And I also do not take a tape measure diving with me.

Here's my float I made 5 years ago when I first started water detecting. Just like OLDBeechnut, but my screen is called "rock Shield" Made for rapping gas pipe under ground so rocks don't chip the epoxy coating off the pipe. It's almost indestructible!! Also have my finds pouch( yellow) hooked to the float and if you look at my belt I have a coiled wire that attaches to a predrilled hole on the back end of my detector( under the elbow) for when there is a strong water currant it doesn't pull my headphone wire.
P.S.
I like the big coil because I can cover more ground and it goes a little deeper on targets(JMO). It is a little harder to pin point shallow targets, but it's worth it for the ground I cover.

Old BeechNut:
Where did you get that scoop you are using? I have looked all over the web for that design and I can't find it. I know it used to be available. Also I believe the upper half of the handle came apart for easier storage if I remember correctly. Thanks.

they sell them anymore, but here's where I bought mine years back.

Credit for the PVC sifter goes to Joe in Maryland, I went down and shot some video of joe hunting in the Chesapeake Bay Last year, seen his sifter. He shared the info on how to..and the rest is history.

The scoop I got off of findmall classified, they are hard to find but I recently came across this site.....BOTTOM of Post {picture}...Never seen them for sale, hope they have them...........In certain locations, you can't beat this scoop, it's got the leverage and the easy of lifting. Ninty percent of the hunters in the Bay use this style. I got this from Ron Lord, he sold me on the Miller........... works great on the West Coast of Florida also.

Here is the depth compare site, http://jimyce.home.netcom.com/test.html I've posted this before and been told

Mr Bill said:
The testing in that link you posted refered to a particular beach in a certain part of the country. It's a area that has real special mineralization problems unlike anywhere else. Unless your hunting the same beach they were referencing, the information would be useless.

If you read at the top of the page of this site it says.......
NOTE: This test was not done by me, and was conducted in a unique mineralized area of Florida Beach. The results may not be the same at another type beach

I have hit a few Beach's in the 4 years I've been water detecting and this goes for just about every beach, each beach varies with different results but most of the time the order will be the same on which detector ranks in depth. Plus this test is from the mid-90's and a few of the detectors are long gone, replaced by newer models.

Just take that in account for now on the results...

In a few years I hope to have a collection of the more popular water machines and do a road trip compare test on all in different locations plus maybe I can get a few volunteers in each location with there own machines. Starting in Ohio, Chicago {Hoping to hookup with Bruce?}, North to the Sandman?, BarryNY.. Long Island, then across to Conn.Craig, then down the east coast, AC, RB, OC, VB, MB then to florida around to the west coast..All on video.. Showing different result, maybe stealing a few secrets, and just have'n fun. Looks like a Summer road trip...2013

Short vid on a silver dollar find, Winter Oc Maryland 2009...results very close to the compare on the unique mineralized area of Florida Beach

OK, I went out to a local park and set-up an all plastic bucket upside down and set the coil on top that at about 18" off the ground. I tested a few different coins in two different modes, auto tune and disc "0" using a plastic nugget scoop to hold the coins. For the auto tune I adjusted the sensitivity to the threshold of my hearing.

Anyway, here are the results:
Quarter clad 9"/14" (disc 0 / auto tune)
Dime Clad 8+"/13+"
Dime silver 8+"/13+"
Nickel 7"/10"
I should note that in the auto tune mode I only recorded the distance that was easily discernible even though there a difference in sound at greater height.
