how many of you use pinpointers?

If you don't see your target in the hole use the pin-pointer. Most only detect about a 1/2 an inch, give or take, so it will narrow down where the target is located. Moist dirt will set them off so no touching when it rains. I haven't got any firsthand knowledge on the Wizards.

Learn to pinpoint with your detector and you won't need one. I went 44 years without one and still don't use one much.

I'd be lost with out my pin pointer. When I'm chipping frozen ground it helps me find the exact spot so I don't hit my target. I get swinging like a wild man chipping frozen dirt. It works good around tree roots, so I don't nick the target. I also use it in gooey mud, so I don't have to stick my hands into it. Great in nice lawns. Make a slice, pp the target and pop it out. You ain't taken my pin pointer away!!!

Man, it's getting hot here! 87 F. Friday.

I used one for my test to see if I wanted to continue to use one. I think it was the Wizard-II but not sure. Looked like a yellow and white buck rogers ray gun.
The tip was actually more sensitive than I would have thought and it worked well for those hard to see targets.
I have it loaned out at the moment and it hasn't came back  That's okay, it's being used by a co-worker who has been detecting maybe a half year.
May not always need one, but sure can be an asset when the situation calls. Now I have the Sun Ray probe on one machine and a half dozen of the hand held type pinpointers in other models.
My main hand held units...

Usually after digging a hole. If you don't see the target in the hole, you wave that magic wand around in the hole to determine where the target is. If it's not there, check in the material removed.
If the target is not too deep, the Pocket Uni-Probe can be waved around on the surface and will signal when the probe tip is over the target. I see my son do this with the Pocket Uni-Probe because of it's target detection capability. It will hit a target at a greater distance than all my other pinpointers.

Sounds like the ground is thawing out John. pinpointers certainly save a lot of frustration. I don't know where I'd be without it, when I swing the other detectors.
Mick Evans.
