how many of you use pinpointers?

I didn't use an electronic pinpointer for about 16 years. I thought "I don't need no stinking pinpointer! " Just for the heck of it I built one. I've been using one now for over 8 years. Now I won't leave home without one!

NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!!! Especiall when you are metal detecting.....

I couldnt imagine hunting without one..A pinpointer makes it soooo much easier to locate a target. I use an automax, but when it breaks I will get a sunray inline.

I have the Whites, 3 x Wizards and A Vibrapobe. The Whites broke (only vibrates, no audio), the Wizards don't work in extreme cold and look like handguns. The Vibraprobe always works, has no switches to wear out and is water proof. It is also the most expensive too. Which one for you? Depends where you live and how often you hunt. If you live in a warmer climate and don't hunt too often, a cheaper version should serve you well, however...........and this is where you have to decide.

Below is a link to a bunch of different pinpointers with various costs. Good luck with your decision. :)

I use the Sun Ray inline probe. It's like a second detector and you can detect coins with it at a depth of 3-5 inches.

wow, I guess I am the only guy w/o one...lol

Ok I am broke  so which one will serve me ok at a decent price? I am not even sure when I can get one, might be awhile

The Ace is the only detector that I don't use one with as it is as accurate as having a pinpointer anyway. Sure wish my other detectors were as accurate. only use a screw driver as a recovery tool as well.

Humm, that sounds interesting.. How complex a circuit is it, and what
did you use for the probe? I assume a winding on a thin form of some type?
I've often wondered if nail finders, etc could be used as a cheapy pinpointer..
I've never tested the range on one of those.
Yep, I'm too spoiled to go without one. It really makes finding objects in
holes a lot faster, the smaller the more useful. My V2 can sniff ultra tiny
bits of metal once the probe gets close.
Can be just a thin tiny sliver and it will usually go off.
I dunno what I will go to if the V2 flakes out.

Hay Goes For Ever,

I got a cheep probe that workes very well.

It is not a sturdy built as the expensive
ones but works as well as most.

Tiny Tec was $39.95 + $4.60 shipping. That
included 3 one dollar US Mint coins which
brings total invest ment to $41.55.

Tiny Tec does not have vibration.

It does have these features however.

25 month warranty
Light to indicate target response
Head light
Sensativity control
Auto shut-off when pointed up
Switch for optional for non- auto shut off
Abitity to detect off the side as off the tip equally
A louder buzzer. Can hear with headphones on.

Hese's pics of Tiny Tec next a Tenatics.
The Tiny Tec is far superrior to the Technatics
and cheeper, with Technatics around $50.
The Tiny Tec can pick up this small piece
of gold, 1/8th X 1/8th inch single thickness
of aluminum foil and a small bit of silver.
Technatics could not pick up these small items
shown in the pics.

Tiny Tec is shown here with a Technatics probe.

Tiny Tec was $39.95 + $4.60 shipping. That included 3 one dollar US Mint coins which brings total
investment to $41.55. TT is cheaper than the Technatics at about $50.

Things Tiny Tec has that Bounty Hunter doesn't:
Light to indicate target response
Head light
Sensitivity control
Auto shut-off when pointed up
Switch for optional for non- auto shut off
Battery door that doesn't fall of as easy and spill battery
Ability to detect off the side as off the tip equally
A louder buzzer. Can hear with headphones on.
Higher sensitivity
25 month warranty

Tiny Tec does not have vibration.

Look at the photo. See the little bits next to the coins. They are a small
piece of gold. A single layer of aluminum foil, about 1/8" square and a small silver circle.

The Tiny Tec will easily pick-up all three.

The Bounty Hunter only will pick up the small silver circle. Then you have to actually rub it
against the tip of the Bounty hunter to get a response. Not going to happen in the field.

That's what I like better about the Tiny Tec.

HH,

I have a Tinytec Ultra Deluxe. It has adjustable sensitivity, vibration and light to tell you that you have found the target, auto shutt-of on/off, a light to shine in the hole if needed and a water-proof probe. The water-proof is the probe only not the control box. Pin-pointers speed up locating your finds mostly. That way your on to your next target sooner. They really help with small targets like stud earrings. Save your clad and scrap. Turn in the scrap and buy a cheap one used. The Automaxes are included in a Kellyco deals and are up for sale when someone moves up. Should be relatively inexpensive. You could advertise a WTB ad here on the Classifieds on Find's Treasure Forum.

ok so how do YOU use the pinpointer? Before you dig the hole so you know exactly where to dig, or ONLY after you have dug to locate the target more quickly
