How many of you Tesoro owners use a coil cover?

My covers take a beating. It is the first line of defense against coil damage. I would not want my coil bottom all gouged up like my covers. Covers are cheap protection.

Depends on hunting environment and detector.

I take them off at the beach to prevent black sand causing loss of depth and falsing. None of my water proof detectors wear one any more.

I also do not use them on the bigger heavier coils like the white's 9.5, the Tesoro 12 x 10 or the 3.6 x 18 clean sweep. If it is over dirt and rocky or in tight wooded areas with saplings and vines, I'll put one on for more protection.
Cheers,
tvr

I never use them and always make contact with the ground or grass. I inspect it periodically and over the years it's developed a very slick (sorta glazed) finish on the bottom with absolutely no sharp edges to catch anything. It don't show any signs of wearing, just smoothing or polishing.

I do !!
Better use coil cover and spend some money that i damage coil and spend more money for new one :stretcher:

Reckon I would, as I bought one.... but the durn thing does not stay on, on my Silver uMax. After "losing" it temporarily while night hunting... I just leave it off. Would fall off several times per hunt... love the machine, hate the cover... only 'cause it does not stay on. Don't want to glue it etc... for fear of "stuff" getting between cover and coil.

you're reply about coil covers got me to thinking:

"I had to order a scuff cover for my 9 x 8" coil and and in the mean time i've been using a big sandwich bag until it gets here and been pasture hunting only until i get my cover."

i like the protection they give but since i like a clean detector i always wipe the detector down with a damp wash cloth. i don't take the coil off each time because i think it may lose it's tightness so after every 10 uses or so i remove the coil cover by working it down from side to side since the soil and grass i go over tends to drop dirt and dust which gets into areas i can't reach without taking off the cover. your sandwich baggie just gave me an idea....with that on, it would keep the flying dirt from landing on the upper side of the coil, or maybe a thin bead of silicon caulk. that might allow me to keep the coil cover on all the time and might not need cleaning again!

thanks for the idea! dan in so cal

Dan,
I put a bead of polyseamseal on my coil covers. I got sick of having to remove them and clear out the filth that collected between them and the coil. I havent removed one since. That said, if I remember right the 8x9 coil has the coil potting exposed so I would recommend a cover for that reason alone. Else I don't see a need for one except maybe harsh areas like Arizona.

Out of curiosity...has anybody ever had to replace a coil for lack of a coil cover?

looking at my new Silver it appears to have a cover on it from the factory,,,but I sprayed "bed liner" from a can on it for double protection

I use one on my Silver U-Max,always have.Glad I did. Also on my Minelab Safari.Don't leave home without them.
