Mark, I have found 7 with 3 being gold. The oldest was 1952 man's gold. It still had the yarn and finger nail polish on it. The fellow was still alive and he told me he gave it to his girl friend to "go steady". She lost it the first day she had it. I was able to return 6 or the 7, It is one of the best feelings I have had to see a person's face when they get something that they had given up ever seeing again.Me personally, I've only gotten three. WOW... I thought I had some time in with this hobby ( about 28-29 yrs ) You eclipse me by a long margin.. WTG Jim.After 50 years of doing. this, I really don't know. The oldest, though, was 1929 and it was found about 10 years ago. I find far more gold bands then class rings, however. HH jim tn
Great story RL. Bet that "girlfriend" didn't last long after the ring lost. Ring gone... she's gone in my book..Mark, I have found 7 with 3 being gold. The oldest was 1952 man's gold. You know, I know returning a ring is supposed to be the right thing to do, but when you hear stories of unappreciated f*$ks who really don't care if they get it back or not, all they deserve in the big middle finger !! Go with the O'le adage finders keepers, loser weepers. Sorry that's just the way I feel and not everyone shares this view.I have found four strictly hunting dirt in public parks. Two were that illustre material with little value and one of those had met the lawnmower. The other two were 10k from this century. The first was a huge ring from an individual who was an offensive lineman in high school , about $600 in value at the time. I tracked him down , he barely said thanks but said he was going to send me an "envelope" and wanted my address ,,,,never heard from him. He is a middle school teacher. I took the second gold one to the gold and silver exchange.
Mark, there truly are many who do not appreciate the honesty and effort the finder takes to get the ring back to them. My very first return was like that. The fellow came roaring into my drive. Took the ring and roared off without so much as a "thank you or I can't beleive this has happened". Our local paper will run a free lost and found add. I always try to run this add, but I have learned to NEVER describe the lost ring. The add will read where I found the ring, but I always ask to call me and DESCRIBE. I will have ten or more people call to try to claim the ring, but never the original owner. Lots of shady people out there. There are lots of variables to honestly trying to return a valuable piece of jewelry. You know, I know returning a ring is supposed to be the right thing to do, but when you hear stories of unappreciated f*$ks who really don't care if they get it back or not, all they deserve in the big middle finger !! Oh Well. Cheers Mark ( ohio )
I agree RL... I've had 2 happy returns myself. They were real time events where couples came up to me on the beach and said sir, if you don't mind my spouse lost their ring playing with a child in the sand and before they knew it , it was gone. I graciously went to the area and luckily found both rings with happy people all around.Mark, there truly are many who do not appreciate the honesty and effort the finder takes to get the ring back to them. That ring must have been worn for many years before being lost…So far just one. Its heavily warn but can make out the state as Minn and the school was “LHS”, its silver. Had it looked at by a reputable antique jewelry dealer who said design and lettering place it in the late 30s to early 40s. Not enough visible info to ID which exact school or year.
You were developing a sharp eye as a wee lad. WTG.In 15 years of detecting I have not found any, but when I was about 10 years old I found one laying on the ground at a local school yard back in the early 70’s.
I guess those office personal are just so damm busy they have no time to try and help you return a lost memento from an alumni of the school.Yes, I even called Minnesota State Superintendent’s Office and tried to match the number of letters probable in the name of a HS starting with the letter L. It was like they really had no time to bother with me. About the only items I’ve had any luck returning are pet name tags.
If its engraved with any info which can be traced then I will try.
I believe about every 10k mens class ring I have ever found came in in the zinc/penny range on every detector I have had that I found one with. HH jim tnI found a large 10k men's class ring a few years ago, and it rang up like a zinc penny.
WOW !! was a higher Kt like 14 or 18 kt. Nice job.I have found many over the years but I hunt the beach and water a lot. Most I find these days are junk but I found a nice silver one a few months ago. The oldest I have found was 1923.
