How leery would you be of buying used with no warranty?

Sounds good guys. I'm in contact with two dealers right now. One without warranty and one with about 8 months left all in the same ballpark price-wise and both less than the one I originally asked about. The one with the warranty was sent in last year for water in the battery compartment but "came back OK". I want to call Minelab and ask them what was done on it, if anything. Will be making a few calls tomorrow and I'll probably be a CTX owner by the end of the day!

Good luck, Only you can weigh the 'upgraded' CTX with full warranty at full price vs all the various degrees of age/use. And whatever you do, you win by ending up with a CTX!

One of the two I'm looking at is under warranty until December and was sent in for water in the battery compartment in March of last year. The parts (something with the display) were replaced. I know with things like laptops if you spill water on the keyboard the issues might not manifest for several months or longer (corroded contacts, etc). Is that something you would be concerned about? There's only $150 difference between this one (with warranty til December) and the other one (cheaper but no warranty).

What I find odd is that the one that was sent in for work has been online for sale since early December and hasn't sold yet. Am I missing something there that I should be concerned about?

everyone has an opinion so I will give mine. If you are talking about spending $150.00 more for a warranty that will
last you 11 more months, divide 150.00/11 and you get about $14.00 or around 44 cents a day. what is the price of
peace of mind?? If it had been a dry repair, broken face plate or something like that I wouldn't think twice about the
cheaper one but if it was wet, most likely it was in salt water and that is like cancer. It eats you alive slowly and one
part at a time. I would spend the extra 150 and know for at least a year i didn't have to worry.

I would probably pass on it. I paid $1500 for mine with 11" and 17" coil and 1.5 years warranty remaining from a dealer I know well. Also consider whether or not it has been submerged often in saltwater or came from someone who never even submerged it.
