How is the Tesoro Mojave working out for people that have one?

GB is over rated in my area. Only 5 silver coins I found last year were with factory preset machines. Never could find one with my Vaquero.

Pre-set GB units can work well in many areas...a lot depends on the degree of mineralization for a given area. Pre-set units come from the factory with GB internally calibrated with the supplied coil for best results over a broad range of ground conditions. A manual GB detector will allow the user to interchange any size coil regardless of configuration (wide-scan or concentric) and have the ability to set your GB precisely for that coil of your choice.

I like to use my Mojave in parks , playground and school yards . I generally use the 7 inch concentric. I also have the 7 inch wide scan DD and found that it works great on salt beaches. With the ground setting on low ,I can run full gain past 5 to Max on dry sand.
On wet sand, I can flip to high ground setting, cut and the gain to 4 or 5 with no chatter. Depth is decent 5 - 7 inches. The nice part is that I don't have to fiddle with a bunch of controls while detecting. I can go from dry sand to wet sand without any hassle. Another benefit is that when I travel this combination will handle 90% of what I need without packing a ton of stuff.

Tried an 8 x 11 inch Epsilon DD coil on my Mojave.
It provides a significant increase in depth on rings and larger targets. Discrimination is not quite as good as with the standard 7 inch Concentric but is still good enough. Pinpointing is a bit tricky at times on small targets within a few inches of the coil.
The DD performs very well over fresh water areas and it also handles moderate iron mineralised ground.
The coil performs fine over salt water dry sand and with common sense use of the sensitivity & Disc controls it can achieve reasonable depth over the wet sand. This coil is best used in the less trashy areas because target separation is not so flash.I like the extra ground coverage as compared to the 7 inch Concentric.
So, although I like the DD, I feel that Tesoro have matched the Mojave to the 7 inch concentric very well indeed.

I took a wood board , 2 - 16 penny nails and a clad quarter .. I put the nails about 2 1/2 " apart and set the discrimination on the Mojave to just knock out the nails and then I put the quarter between the nails and the Mojave sounded off loud and clear on the quarter .. I then took my etrac with the settings on TTF and the etrac could not pick up the quarter I changed the settings to Conduct and the etrac did manage to pickup the quarter but the signal was a high pitch tone just like a can and the screen numbers didn't match a quarter at all so it wasn't something I would normally dig .. $240.00 versus $1250.00 , go figure..

I recently tried a 10x12 concentric on my Mojave in salt water. I know a concentric coil that size isn't the best for this sort of hunting, but it's the only one I have with an 8' cable that allows me to get two or three feet into the water if I have the control box strapped to my chest. The machine was definitely chatty, and I had to keep the sensitivity no greater than 2.5 or it would false too much. Discrimination was set mid-way between Iron and Foil. Mineralization was on the High setting, as you may have guessed.

There weren't many targets, but I did manage to find the stuff in the attached photo. The bracelet gave me quite a thrill when I saw it in the scoop, but it's only 24K plated.

The 7" stock coil is way more stable in the wet salt sand, but the cable isn't long enough for me to feel comfortable going in the water with it.

Nice hunt there Dig. Silver dime too. You keep going back to the beach , gotta get a light long handle scoop. You can't believe how much more fun it is.
Make another one sometime.

I was reading all of the posts on this topic again and I noticed Fishers Ghost mentioned a new combo pinpointer and digger.
Is that some special tool you have and did you make it or buy it?
I'm curious because I'm trying to make a coin-popper with a small detector coil in the digging end.
I think it will be a good companion tool for my Mojave.

I purchased the combo pointer and digger . It is called Metal Detecting Digging Digger Trowel Tool pinpointer Metal Detector
It works quite well although sensitivity is down a bit but good enough to respond to rings and coins approx an inch distant and gives a distinct squeal when the tip of the digger contacts the target.

Fishers Ghost
Thank you for sharing information on the combo pointer and digger.
I found it on the internet and it looks like a very handy tool to have.
I might just get one of these and not build my own.

Now that the weather is better I have had a chance to do more hunting with my Mojave.
I really like this detector and it is definitely my favorite.
My Bandido is 26 years old and still works like new so I expect all of my Tosoros will outlive me.

Metal Detecting Digging Digger Trowel Tool pinpointer Metal Detector. Now that's a catchy name, hopefully the R&D think a little more creative:)

It will be interesting to know what you think of it.
I am finding it useful although it does have an annoying on /off switch..You will discover what I mean when you get the digger.
