when he finds not one...but TWO 2 cent pieces about 45 minutes apart. Yes you heard right... he found 2 freakin' two centers in the same hunt.
Talk about givin' me a slappin'.....

I sound irritated but it is 100% in jest...because I am so happy for Dave. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
I had hammered the area previously with my X-5 and 4 x 7 Excelerator coils but I wanted to see if I could hit anything in the trash that was out of reach of the small coils.
We hunted about 2 hours before I got a good enough signal to investigate but I wasn't surprised because the area was littered with junk. It took some time before my coil went accross any ground without much trash.
I dug a deep plug through the dry rubble and began scraping it out and piling it up on the outside of the hole.
I then ran the probe at the bottom of the hole but got nothing.
As I started to scrape away some more rubble to dig deeper...a bunch slid off the pile on the outside and fell back into the whole...uncovering what you see in the pic.

I had obviously already scraped out the coin in the rubble as I was clearing out the hole.
It was like it was just suspended there...hanging on edge. Still not sure what kept it from sliding back in...but right after I took the pic...that's exactly what it did.
The funny thing was that Dave had to sit right there like a mother hen guarding the hole and blocking the wind which was really blowing...to keep the coin from blowing back in the hole while I ran to the car to get the camera.

About 15 minutes later Dave called me over to the other side of the site where he was hunting to watch him dig a deep plug.
Before we knew it he had popped out his first ever 2 cent piece...and his face lit up like a Christmas tree.
[attachment 179778 daves2cent.jpg] [attachment 179798 daves2centd2.jpg]
He didn't even know what it was until I told him...then he got all fired up.
I was excited for him and congratulated him...but he wasn't done yet.
About 40 minutes later I hear him yell again... so I make the long trek to where he is.
The cursor wasn't dead on in smartscreen...but the sound was decent for him. Once he switched to the ID'ing all metal pinpoint on the SE though...the cursor pretty much stayed in the upper right 25% of the screen....so he knew to give it a dig.
What happened next is as much of a blur to me as it is to him. He popped out a SECOND 2 cent piece...and this one was NICE.
[attachment 179780 daves2centc.jpg] [attachment 179779 daves2centb.jpg]
In a matter of 45 minutes he went from never having seen a 2 cent piece...to finding TWO of them.
He is definitely getting the hang of the "gibberish" the SE speaks...but he has worked hard for it. He and I usually hunt together about 90% of the time. He works hard...goes very slow...listens carefully... refuses to get skunked...and MORE IMPORTANTLY he doesn't get irritated if he isn't finding stuff. He just has fun and keeps pluggin' away.
I used to hunt with a guy who got frustrated because he felt he wasn't finding as much as he should. In fact he was missing coins he shouldn't have been missing because of his frustration. It just took the fun out of the hunt. It is all about the fun...and if it ever stops being fun...then make some changes
The key to the explorers is #1 having fun ... #2...going slow
...and #3 carefully listening to the sounds.
I am happy for you Dave...you accomplished something I could never even dream of...2 of them 2 cent critters in one hunt.
Now here's some new ground rules for our future hunts buddy...NO more coil comparing...NO more detector comparing...NO more tips...NO more calling you over to listen to deep signals...NO more letting you watch the cursor flutter on my deepies:O...NO more helpin' you at all. You're on your own "Holmes".
Thanks for sharing our afternoon with us fellers'. This hobby is capable of surprising you at any moment.
