how deep should i go?

Using a fisher f5, and I search a lot fresh water beaches and boat landings. Just curious as to how deep should I submerge thecoil and shaft and not fear ruing the dector( I know not to put the elec. In the river)? And what about the connecter to the coil? Or should I just keep my feet on the dry?Ty scoot

In the water if you slip its dead, also if you raise the coil after being in the water on some detectors water can run up the shaft to the electronics. I foolishly use my GT and etrac to knee depth ocasionally but i know what might happen and am very carefull.
Being consious of this its your decision, but the coil shouldn't leak

I fried a DFX and a Spectrum before I bought a Fisher CZ-20. The DFX I raised the coil above the box and exactly what Kered said water ran up the shaft and into the electronics. The Spectrum was a idiotic mistake. I reached down to get the target and in doing so put the box in the water. With that said, A land machine has VERY limited use in the water!! My friend John put his Edge in a waterproof case to use it before he bought my extra CZ.

So if you are going to use it BE super careful, find enough gold to get a waterproof machine or look what people on here have done to an ace 250 to waterproof it and have fun.
