How about an update!

Any wind of Minelab coming out with an update soon?

You must have been reading my mind!:)----I was just thinking about that exact same thing this evening & thought about making a post concerning it---thank you.------Right--Minelab, how about an update/upgrade with (some) of the suggestions offered in that post/thread?----We aren't asking for anything for free--we would pay a reasonable amount for meaningful CTX upgrades.----There has been a LOT of very good suggestions offered.

This is the last I heard from minelab when I asked about an update and included the link to our suggestion thread above

"Not at this exact moment but we will let you know once the new updates are official - thank you for sending us the link!"

I am thinking we will have to petition them for real answer or perhaps an executive employee carpet bomb email to see if we can get something more concrete with regards to the next update.

I am always up for an update but I don't want to pay for it. I think I paid enough already. If we have to pay for upgrades I think that will discourage people.IMO

You bought the detector, not any (future) upgrades.----It beats having not to purchase a new detector to get any upgrades, which is (one of) the things the CTX is supposed to be all about (unlike other detectors).-----I will agree with you on one thing---we've paid PLENTY already.----Can't remember anyone twisting my arm to buy the CTX though! :)-----Also, I can't remember Minelab ever saying there would be free future updates.----In any case, it would be very nice to have some updates/upgrades made available for those of us that wish to purchase them.

DP They did say they were going to have updates.. Look at some of my posts in the suggestion thread, you will find I have quoted Minelab literature....

nevermind I looked it up for you http://www.findmall.com/read.php?86,1887740,1952012#msg-1952012

I didn't say that Minelab wasn't going to have updates----I said FREE updates.-----Did Minelab say they were going to have future "free" updates?-----Maybe I missed something!

I understood what you meant DP but I didn't put it in my response, my fault. See my updated post

My point now is as it was then in that there was no asterisk and then something at the bottom of the brochure or web page saying "for additional charge" regarding updates or upgrades

Thanks GKMan-------Well.....After all this time & regardless if we are going to call it an update or upgrade (and with all these good suggestions in that post/thread) AND regardless if it is going to be free (or not)----it would SURELY be nice if Minelab would get on the stick & do SOMETHING.-----We got a great detector here in the CTX but of course, there is ALWAYS room for improvement.----The neat thing is ,the CTX lends itself to those improvements thru updates/upgrades.----Many of them suggested in that great post/thread.----The question is--when is Minelab going to act on/offer some of (any of) them??

Agree completely...

Updates to the CTX3030 platform have been performed when problems were reported and identified. As far as I know, there aren't any pending issues that require a software update. If an issue comes up, I am confident Minelab will address it.

As to adding more functionality.............when changes are made to the platform, the current load must be rewritten to include the new functionality, while not interfering with the existing load or sacrificing any of the functionality we currently enjoy. As you might expect, a great deal of R&D resource must go into projects such as this. With that said, Minelab has acknowledged the suggestions made on this forum, and is prioritizing them for possible future implementation.

As with any product design, many of the "suggestions" submitted are subject to personal preferences. Much of the pad placement, display information and functionality access was based on feedback from those involved in testing the product. Fortunately or unfortunately, we won't all agree as to what should go where.

Almost, it doesn't explain away the pinpoint lock feature, which was an early enhancement which may have spoiled us all thinking other enhancements were going to be coming soon

One thing I'd like is a way to PAUSE the detector while you are using a pin pointer. You should be able to hold down the power key for maybe just one second and pause it then resume it when you are ready with another press. Hold it down for 3 seconds and it powers off.

I agree with GKman the CTX is no longer a kept best secret. I think the least mine lab could do would be to give us some kind of write-up on the type of updates they're working on. Telling us in the beginning that the CTX will have updates available paid or not, but leaving us in complete darkness for an entire year is to me kind of inconsiderate in my opinion. Whether we like what they do or not, least let us know up front what were in for. JMHO

If they'd just come out with one more bin for Ferrous-Coin I could live with the rest of the minor "imperfections". I would think since the code already is written for existing bins, adding another one would be fairly minor and easy to push out to the users. I'm a loyal MineLab user, but if they put out a new "4040"(,or whatever they want to name it) detector before we get answers to our suggestions, I'll be moving to a different brand when this one is out of warranty and bites the dust.

I would really enjoy one more bin in combined. I'll call my Minelab contact and see if I can get an answer that they'll let me post.

If I recall, the pinpoint lock feature was part of the SeaWater update, which, in addition to addressing problems being encountered in Salt Water, also included a few other minor system updates. I agree that it doesn't explain why Locking Pinpoint was "turned loose" when it was. But the fact that it was included with a "fix" for Salt Water indicates to me that the "enhancement" did not require an extensive amount of R&D. HH Randy

I just want silver to warble like on the e-trac.
