Hopefully I'm not putting anyone on the spotlight here....

Let's see who'll speak out on this one!
Very Controversial no doubt, But I'm not asking for explanations or long debates...just your honest opinions. I have two questions
Question #1:
In your opinion, What's the best detector on the market Past, present , or future... for USA Ground treasure hunting enjoyment?
Question # 2
How many different types of detectors have you used?

Thanks for your replies!

Hi KCK,

#1. the best detector is whichever one that you know like the back of your hand.

#2. I believe 30 different models.

minelab sovereign but i haven't tried the explorer, t-2, or f-75 yet. since the mid 7o,s 7 detectors.

Best all round with good info to the user. My all time favorite MD was the Fisher 1266X...but they are no longer made. I have a T2 now that is really giving me high hopes...very promising.

I've had over 70 metal detectors over the past 30 years.

My favorite so far is the Tesoro Cibola. I have had about 10 detectors in the last 15 or so years. Steve.

Sold My older Mark-1 LTD and now use the New F75 and havent looked back at all!! I also have an 6000 XL Pro. I will be getting the New F4
shortly also.

My favorite detector I have ever used is the MXT. I love how it has knobs and switches, instead of all that touch pad crap. I like that way it gives true readings on each pass, instead of averaging the signals for me, i.e. like the Signagraph on other detectors. I like its raw power and sensitivity. Throw a DD coil on the MXT, and you have the Rolls Royce of metal detectors.

Just my opinion, Jeff in Flint, MI

When I hang up my boots a CZ will go down as my alltime favorite, however feel an Explorer probably has the best guts but is heavy to lug around. I think wirechief hit the nail on the head with his answer as knowing your unit is of upmost importance..
Heck I have lost count in units I have used as I usually sell to buy, but would imagine close to 100 and yes every CZ model ever made...

I would have to say the Whites 5900/6000 series of detectors. I used them for over 20 years as my main detectors. I have tested or tried most of the other top of the line detectors thru the years but the 6000's always worked best for me in my ground. The Minelab Muskys have been my second favorite. They work anywhere. Good ground, bad ground, beaches and are the best in iron infested sites. I have to admit I haven't even been interested in the newer crop of detectors that have come out the last couple of years. I just believe detector technology reached it's peak some time back and the newer detectors are nothing new just repackaged.

I currently swing the f75 and this detector just continues to amaze me in all areas of operation. For ten or so years I had cz's and never thought until now they could be beat. Back through the 70's and 80's I had White's and Garrets. Over the past 35 years I've had about a dozen detectors. And, at the time, each was the best. HH jim tn

Back in the 80's I went threw allot of the top name brand detectors ( no
wife or kids = extra money ) Me and a friend decided to get new detector again so we called up kellyco and ordered the top of the line Garrett's both identical in every way, now my friend was having a hard time pulling anything out of the ground he said it did not work right or was broke so we traded detectors for the day I had no problem with his at all he just did not know how to use it. eventually we got it all squared away and it worked just fine for him.

NOW THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS--Whatever detector you get learn how to use it and become one with it. I think they are all pretty dame good, some might have a little edge in one place but not as good in the next Garrett has always been good to me & I just bought a new 2500 a week ago
this thing is awesome

I started with a Garrett ADS III, went to a Fisher 1236-X2, upgraded to a Fisher CZ-5 and now I have a Minelab Explorer XS - Absolutely the best detector, Bar None, of those I've used and those I've compared it against.

I have used a WHite's Classic, Garrett CXIII and ACE 250 and a cheap fischer, and I like all of them, but the Garrett CXIII is the best. It has tons of the bells and whistles that cannot be found on other detectors. I find it to be the most accurate on ID with 24 segments, and the VCO makes it easy to find and pinpoint small, deep items. I do not know why they stopped making this machine!

For about $200, the ACE 250 cannot be beat. It is a great deep seeking machine with many features typically found on detectors costing $500 or more. It is lightweight at only 2 Lbs and uses 4 AA batteries!

For my next one, I would love to try the Minelab Explorer but it seems like a monster at more than 4 Lbs.!

I've used over 30 machines since 1992.Currently I have 5 on hand.

The best non metered unit in my opnion is the GMT 1650.Never seen a mchine that can pull good stuff
out from around and under nails.Pulled bullets and coins out at the nine inch mark. But where it shines is in iron trash.
I have used the explorer and I think as far as screen information it is outstanding.I sold it .Just to heavy.
Am using the f75 and it is also very good, and also light.

In my 33 years of detecting I have tried many different detectors, some were great, so were not so great. Out of the Compass detectors the RM7 seem to be my favorite and the coin magnum my least favorite, On the Garrett's the GTAx 1000 was the most impressive while the GTIs the least for me. The Whites the MXT is the best Whites I have used and yet the Coin master 3 with no disc got me the most gold rings. On the Tesoros the Tejon was the best while the Cortes I like the least. On the Troy Custom detectors the X5 was a great detector and wish I would have kept the one I had. The Teknetics the Mark 1 was a detector far advanced over anything else in the 80s and tried the new T-2 and it was also very impressive. Now on the Fishers I have tried a few and do have a F-75 right now and still getting to know this detector, but looks like it may be a very good one. I have had all 3 of the Explorer series detector and have a SE right now and they too are very good, but over all I feel the Sovereigns with the 180 meter will do better for me with the trash to treasure ratio and will dig less iron over any of the detectors available I have used.

I agree about the Sovereign GT.

It would have been better to state which is the best detector for a specific task.
I have seven first line machines. One underwater, two wet sand, two dry sand, one for plough soil and one for pasture. Plus several old classics that are obsolete in many ways but can still excel over newer machines on certain sites. Compass 77b, Bounty Hunter Mk 1, GMT 1650 are excellent in high rubbish/nails areas. For normal use they lack depth.
To get the very best out of my mixed bag of machines I also have four sets of headphones.
No one can say any make or model is the best....just the best they have tried so far in their area.

Like UK Brian...I have a few detectors...each one great in its own environment. I really enjoy my Tejon for any land hunting, my Stingray II for freshwater & my CZ-20 for salt water...but the Tejon is the one that stays in my truck at all times ready to go. About to get a Wilson Coin Select. Have owned 8 detectors-still have 5...with a Minelab Sov the quickest back on the Fed-ex truck.
