Hip-Mounting Land Star - Need Longer Cable
Did you ever think of contacting Bounty Hunter directly and see if they have a cable of some type that might fit??????????
That was step one. Here is the rep's reply: "Unfortunately we do not have the extension cable you need. What we could do is you can send the unit in and purchase a new coil with a longer cord. I would not be able to provide a cost on this until a technician evaluates the unit. At that time we can call you with estimate on repairs needed. If you decide to do this let me know so I may issue a return authorization number. Let us know how long you would need the cord."

That reply made me wonder if BH had coils lying around with various cable lengths. That would not make sense. Then the rep mentions repairs needed. That doesn't make sense either. Possibly, what the rep means is that they might take my coil apart and attach a longer cable whose length I would specify. I have a feeling that going this route would be cost prohibitive. I told the rep that I had found a solution with that compute cable that didn't work out. What I think I'm going to do is write the rep again and ask for an estimate without my having to send in the coil. They should be able to figure it out without having my coil in hand.
I just emailed a guy who repairs Bounty Hunters and will let everyone know his reply.
I'm curious as to his reply but I'm also curious as to what you asked him. Please tell us, will appreciate it.

I tired email, didn't work. Called, explained that I had an acquaintance who was having issue metal detecting due to fatigue and was looking to move the unit into a pouch so it could be carried there. He said he had done several units like that and would be glad to make one. He is the guy listed on the Bounty Hunter Website, Keith Wells

The email doesn't work and the the phone number has changed. He said a three foot cable was $25.00 and $5.00 shipping. Correct phone is (903) 734-7773. but if he can do it, probably some one near you can too.

If I can find the right plugs and cord, I would be glad to make one up for you for just the cost of parts and shipping...Let me know if you cannot find someone local...I need to go to the Mall tomorow anyways to replace my headset on the computer, which stopped working in one ear...Darn cord to the earpiece cracked and broke...

Thanks for your efforts, I really appreciate it. I could do business with Keith again but he has left a bad taste in my mouth from a transaction back in 1992 where he tried to pull some b.s. on me and between my wife and I we beat him back legally. BH-LandStar says that he will do an extension for me for the cost of parts and shipping and I'm going to accept his offer.

I had never done any business with him so far, but its good to know if someone has had contentions before. Good luck, Hope it all works out. Let me know if I can be of help.

Thanks, Rivermarine1. With people such as Keith Wills, who others have also complained about, do not conduct business on the 'phone. Do it strictly via paperwork, that way you have something from him in his own words to use against him if he reneges on any transaction. This is true for any transaction. Talking on the phone may be nice and gives it a human touch but it could work out against you. If you have to call someone, wait until the transaction if finished then call for a last minute personal thanks, etc.

Here is the response I finally got from Bounty Hunter. I emailed them on April 30, 2008.

You may purchase the coil plus the 3ft extension cord. The price for the coil would be $ 49.99 plus $20.00 for the 3ft cord plus shipping. Unfortunately we are not able to just make a 3 ft extension cord.

Thank you,

Veronica Castro

From your photo, it looks like you have a 5 Pin Din connector with 60 degree spacing, It looks like they sold you a 5 Pin Din connector with 45 degree spacing.

You might try a web search for the 60 degree cable or connector. A good source is Markertek. They supply much of the TV industry with cables and connectors. They are online, have many cables types in stock, and will make a custom cable when you need it, (although that gets pricey.) I think Din pins are more popular in Europe, so you might also try some European suppliers if all else fails.
