HI, I'm new...

Hey RG, Welcome to the Tesoro Forum. I can understand you looking at Tesoros. I haven't owned one for very long but I have really enjoyed my Golden. If I was looking for a relic machine I'd sure look at the Tejon and Vaquero. While most will work for relics I think I'd want a manual ground balance. However, a number of folks have had pretty good luck with a variety of Tesoro detectors for relic hunting. I consider my Golden to be mainly a coin machine with its particular features though I guess it would work ok for relic hunting. I could also recommend a Whites MXT as I have used one for several years. It can go deep but probably not as deep as a Tejon or Vaquero. I still like it though. Sounds like your yard is just waiting to reveal what lurks beneath the surface!! Good luck in selecting a detector and I don't think you would go wrong with a Tesoro. I'm not familiar with the new line of Fisher detectors. HH TonyTX :) :tesoro::whites:

Hope things work out well for you RG.

I would just add that while the Vaguero may miss some small iron, it won't be much. As a mater of fact the Vaquero, like any top of the line MD, will do a very good job. You may even be surprised how small of iron you will be recovering. I had a hard time believing my Cibola would not pick up some small iron because I recovered so much of it. But it will miss some.

Vaquero will deal with most any ground conditions you are likely to encounter, unless you hunt salt water beaches or prospect..

The thing about the Compadre is it's great at most everything but not deep. It makes the best low cost second detector I can think of. It will find every thing down to a certain depth. It doesn't cost as much as a DD coil. But it will add so much to your arsenal.

Anyway, that's just my take on it.

Enjoy and Happy Hunting,
