Hi Gents of all the detectors you have owned which is NO.1 ??:yikes:

I would say out of my current machines I have 2 joint favourites the Deus and the T2,followed by the Nexus SE and TDI Pro

To date the Tejon & Vaquero for diffrent reasons.

Happy Hunting All,

My opinion changes. All I've used are several models of Tesoro. Of those, my current favorite is between Eldorado (micro) and Outlaw. Tejon and Vaquero are the deepest I have, but I don't like their discrimination accuracy as much. I like all my Tesoros and grab different ones, depending on where I'm going. My favorite all-around ~ TODAY ~ is probably the.... Outlaw.

I think the disc is quieter in iron on the Outlaw there for it may be perceived by some as better but I would not go as far as to say it's more accurate ( ED120 & ED180 disc circuits they have diffrent traits). All the Tesoro units have a great disc on them be it ED120 or ED180.

A little more clarification on my statement.

How Outlaw and older design Tesoro's compared to the Tejon and Vaquero Hot detectors with ED180 disc

Well first off the older Tesoro units and the Outlaw with the ED120 disc are quieter running machine (by design) and will be that way in iron trash because of the ED120 disc and the 10 hrz lower operating frequency. The Tejon with its 180ED disc and the Vaquero with there higher operating frequency and there wider range of discrimination in the disc mode just make them more noisy in iron trash but they will except a way wider range of iron targets or targets that fall in the lower ranges of the disc (this really holds true for the Tejon and is less with the Vaquero). You can disk down low enough in the iron with the Tejon to pick up individual nails of your choice if you like (relic hunters love this). This is something you could never do with the older Tesoro units as well as the Outlaw even at its lowest disk setting the ED120 disc on these units is still going to knock out a lot of the iron/nails and other targets in this range still. The Tejon and the Vaquero will not making them better over all relic machines while still maintaining the ability to be great coin and jewelry detectors as well.

The reason so many folks love the older Tesoro units is because of how quiet they ran in iron trash and how well they discriminated. In the big picture you cant go wrong with any of the Tesoro units.

I was hunting a spot yesterday with the Vaquero. Lots of nails, in damp gravel and mineralized soil. I was looking for the few old coins in all that gravel and had the small DD coil on the Vaquero... that combo just wasn't unmasking the goods, so I know I missed some coins. It was a tough spot for me, with both high mineralization and lots of iron. Wished I had the Outlaw, B2m or Eldorado with a small concentric instead, even with the mineralization where I thought the DD / Widescan would do well. Nails (lots) and heavy mineralization made it tough to sort through with the Vaqurero / DD. I've got quite a few hours in on the Vaquero and in lower mineralization its depth is amazing. Not saying which is best; depends on where you're hunting - right?

As for ignoring nails and iron though, I'll use my microMAX models. ^_^

Don't get me wrong here, I was not saying one is better than the other. I was just pointing out the differences in the disc between the units based on my experience.

With the small concentric 5.75 coil on the Vaquero with the disc and sensitivity set right and using a slow sweep speed I think it would have done as well as the Outlaw in your said environment. ( DD coils are suppose to be better but that's not always the case with the smaller coils in trash in mineralized ground ).The Vaquero would just be a little more noisy or poppy sounding but this could work to your advantage in iron trash. This statement is explained pretty good in the book understanding the Tejon and the Vaquero detectors. I have also found it to be true as this is my second Vaquero I have owned. I ran the Outlaw through the paces for three years before trading back to a Vaquero. Their both awesome detectors and you can not go wrong with either. I sure miss the no motion metal mode on the Outlaw. And yes it could depend on where your hunting and how well one knows the detector he is using.

For me I prefer the Vaquero. You seem to prefer the Outlaw language, its really a win win because were out hunting having fun and finding goodies.

This is a tough topic on which is my favorite present and past. I believe some people, including me, have labeled a machine their favorite when they find a nice coin or relic the first time out with their new machine. Or maybe they found a nice coin or relic on a site they hit a dozen times with another machine. Either case, the person may just have not walked over the particular coin or relic with their other unit. I know I have done this a few times myself. I have also had other units far more superior in the past that I did not label as a favorite just because I did not find anything outstanding with them and wound up throwing in the towel too soon on that particular unit. I have had a ton of units too. It was not always necessarily the detector I was using at the time, but it was the choice of sites I was detecting. I guess I can answer the question though and it is a tough one for me. I have had 3 favorite past machines and one current particular favorite. The past includes the Tesoro Conquistador first production micromax with the frequency toggle under the control housing. My very first find with it was a civil war 52 caliber sharps bullet on a site I had never found civil war relics on, that I had hunted with another brand many many times prior. Also found an 1882 IHP, my first one of those as well on the same day with that conquistador. My second favorite past unit was the Minelab Xterra 50. I found a seated Liberty quarter on my first time out with that one. I put the 6" HF coil on it and I found some of my favorite coin finds with that unit including many Barber dimes and more IHP. I do not have it anymore but I still want another one with the same set up. My third past unit was the Whites MXT. Found a nice pocket spill consisting of a Barber dime, V nickle, IHP and 1917 wheat penny on one of the first runs out detecting with it. Although I have had other named brand units in the past, Tesoro will remain my favorite brand of metal detectors period. So now here is my current favorite unit. An out of production Tesoro Silver Sabre uMax I purchased off of feebay for less than 175.00 shipped. I bought it on a whim. And why is it my favorite you may ask?? Because I found these in my own yard the first time I turned it on and walked the woodline. They were always there the whole time I had all of the other units I had owned. It is just because I walked into a different part of the yard that I had cleared with this new to me Tesoro Silver Sabre uMax that I had never hunted before!!!

I bought each detector for a reason. Compadre for small gold and working in iron trash, Ace 250/ w/sniper for impossible high trash areas, MX5 for depth/auto GB and just about everything else. It's like asking which of my 3 sons is my favorite.

After trying 75+ machines my favorites are vaquero, mxt, etrac and At Gold. I just love those detectors . The Whites mxt is my newest favorite.

Tejon is #1 with my MXT coming in second. I've owned the high end and other middle of the road detectors, but continue to go back to these two.

Tejon #1. It has out done all the other detectors I've had in iron.

Although the Deeptech Vista 1000 rg v2 would probably be as good or better. I shouldn't have got rid of it.
