I have three detectors. My Etrac with 5inch, 6 inch, 8 inch, 11 inch pro, 12 by 15 sef, and 15 WOT I use for coins and general relic hunting. My Xterra 70 and all the available coils I use for almost anything that might not be deeper than say 8 inchs or so. At the higher frequency its also my tool of choice for very small items close to the surface. I probably use the Xterra more than the others as a general detector. Last but not least is my Goldquest with an 11 inch coil. I use this predominately for nugget hunting. If an area is relatively clean I'll use the Goldquest as a general search tool just for the added depth. I've thought about other detectors but when I do I just go hunting foe the day and realize how well I have my bases covered already. The only other addition I am considering is an submersible PI unit... but there again, here in the middle of New Mexico there isn't much need fro one. Tortoise

At present using Troy X5, T2, low and high frequency XP's, Sensor Quad Tone (modified), Minelab Sovereign (modified), Whites XLT (though I still think the long box Spectrum is better apart from weight/programme slots), Fieldmaster motion (modified) and non motion meter discriminator FX 77 Mk III, Arado 130, three P.I.'s, Deepstar, modified on by Eric Foster, Goldquest and a Beachscan (modified to Reg Sniffs instructions to Goldquest performance). Two Nautilus DMC IIB's (only because there were no repair facilities in the U.K. so I need a backup). Discovery Treasure Baron (with most add on modules), Whites Beach Hunter I.D. (original coil for use in high iron beach areas where the Sovereign is nulled out).
Plus a hoard hunter and diving machine.

I've had most other machine's from Minelab/Fisher/Wilson/Detector Pro/C-Scope but run them together and reject the one that suits least. With the T2 it won over the Fisher F75 for its wider range in the iron reject section of discrimination. Some lost out just for the weight or lack of balance.

My current main 2 machines are the Tek T2 and the Minelab XTerra 705. I can't decide which of these machines I like better so I usually hunt a spot with one, one day, and then the next time I go out I will use the other one on the same field. I tend to mostly use the 3 Khz 9 inch concentric with the 705 but in trash will switch to the 6 inch concentric 7.5 Khz. I have the T2 since last autumn and won the 705 along with 3 additional coils at a paid hunt in April.

My back up machines are a Minelab Explorer XS which I have had for years. I tend to just use this at the beach though I am planning on giving the X-Terra a trial using the 18.75 Khz DD coil since the machine has a beach mode and a ground tracking feature that can be enabled. If the X-terra does ok then I will probably get rid of the XS (too heavy for me, but sure works will in salt water wetted sand).

Finally, I have a Ground Hawk, non-metered machine, that I use sometimes but have mainly as a back up.

Love to see some of your detectors.

Hey EL, I've not owned all that many detectors throughout my now almost 40 year's with the hobby. I hunted with a cz6 (great detector) through a good chunk of the 90's and into the 2000's. A few year's ago I got a cz3d (great machine) then two year's ago I got a F 75 and just recently a T 2 to complement my F 75. The latter two are terrific detectors and unless something that truly is revolutionizing comes out, I'll probably have these two detectors for quite a while as well. HH jim tn

I've got a few in a group picture. Anything particular your interested in ?

The Arado 130 is on the left, Quad Tone is one in from the right (looks similar to the Nautilus ie lots of knobs, pale grey colour).

At the bottom is the only detector I have ever found (buried !) . Its a Whites Tellus which was one of the first detectors they sold over here. It featured in the first (pilot) edition of the first metal detecting magazine in the U.K. Dug it up with a broken shaft and the coil connector was and is still rusted into the control box. Tipped the water out, dried it, fitted a battery and it still worked !

Did you ever see the Whites 800 (upgraded 5000) or 8000 the souped up 6000 ? Built by Savo Whites in Scotland. A move that wasn't much liked back in Sweet Home.

Thanks for the pics..interesting seeing things new to me...
I did recognise the T2 LOL

i remember having a 800 , fantastic detector, they were discontinued in the uk, and sold off brand new for about $80. one off the best buys i,ve ever made. must off been about 1984

Holy Cow!!

How have you done with these machines??

Most of the time this old story applies to using a metal detector--------shooting matches have been held in various parts of this country and when a shooter shows up with one very well worn gun he (or she) causes the competition to sweat!

It's not so much the weapon (Metal Detector) as the hunter using it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have owned and used five machines over the past twenty five years, I started with a Whites 6000DI and moved to water hunting with a pair of Garretts PI XL500s with standard and large coils.

I recently (last year) renewed my metal detecting vows after a twenty year lapse and purchased a Garrett Infinium LS ( after finding several gold rings with the old XLs) and an Excal and a Garrett Ace 250!

I have recovered (water hunting) since then over twenty gold rings using the old XL500s and the Infinium!

I haven't found gold "yet" with the ancient Excal or the Ace 250

My take on your question is that you are looking to find out which detecors are producing results and my answer my Friend is the one used the most!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GL&HH Friends,

CK

I find it interesting of what others get from our hobby and what they like using getting their results..

I agree with eldon. I love vintage detectors have a few. MY main working detectors are a Big Bud 220-D just an awesome discriminator, and Lobo Super Traq just purchased recently. Fun topic.
