Hey Cody, Got a Question for Ya

Chris,
I still have an open mind about using Ferrous mode and open screen. I got tired of all the pulltab hits and started blacking out the bottom portion of the screen, but doing this is about the same as hunting conductive with the iron mask blacking out the left portion of the screen.
Maybe one day I will make up my mind which I like best of the four techniques. (depending upon the area being hunted). But for now, hunting open screen drives me nuts. I realize everyone is not effected the same by all of the trash signals.
HH,
Glenn

I would like to see an all metal mode where the threshold does not null on rejected targets but drops to a whisper. I cut the volume down on the headphone with this in mind. Low tones are way down but even if high tones are at the same level they sound louder. It has a lot to do with the site. I hunt one field were you can go 20 to thirty minutes with no hit at all. It matters not as there are 180 at this site to hunt. I found two large cents at that site last summer doing this. We also found some good silver coins using the program suggested for silver from iron. The old park I hunt is tough in high trash so use different setting in those areas and then back to the silver from iron in others.
I have no idea what I will be using this time next year for settings. It depends on what happens with the manufactures and what I learn between now and then.

IM-16 with ferrous sounds is a whole different ballgame than IM-16 with conduct sounds. I've hunted in IM-16 and ferrous sounds alot and like those settings in fields where I dig everything because modern trash is little or none. IM-16 and conduct sounds can give you brain strain real quick. I am usually using IM-12 to IM-14 with conduct sounds. What I use usually depends on how wet it is and how much the iron wants to peek thru.

Glenn,
I hunt alot of sites that are loaded with iron. Like you it a nulls a good portion of the time. I like to use IM-16 and ferrous tones in farm fields. When I switch back to IM-12 and conduct sounds when I start hunting parks in the summer the nulling can be distracting at first. It all depends on the age of the site and how much the iron wants to peek thru as to where I put my iron mask setting. I've dug silver coins in IM-12 that had marks on them from rusty objects touching the coin. I've also had on directional hits that disappear when I rotated 90 degrees but knew the lovely sound of silver... <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

You are right on. It makes a big difference if it is conductive or ferrous for the sounds.
