Here it is the new Minelab info!

Night crawler-
The F3 is a military grade detector used for land mine detection. The SDC2300 utilized the F3's housing and coil design but I'm sure the guts are much different. If I had to guess (and this is just a shot in the dark) I would bet that this is a refined SD2200 in a new compact design. Hence the name SD (C for... You guessed it... Compact). I can't wait to see it in action though and I'll be saving my money for one if it pans out... No pun intended.

Dr. Tones may have hit it on the head.

It would be odd to recycle the SD series platform in a housing which, in it's F3 Mine Detector configuration, uses MPS technology - used otherwise in the GPX detectors. I am curious however about the phrase in today's announcement ..... "waterproof gold detector featuring Minelab

Thanks for the reply "Dr.Tones".
I get the F3 is a military machine, but what I saw in the video was an "F3 Compact" stamped into the housing of that machine being displayed on the Brazilian beach for the public to see as this was the machine "F3 Compact" that was going to be sold commercially to the public later this year.

Why would MineLab go through so much trouble displaying the F3 Compact for commercial use at the Brazilian Convention then come out with the same thing (different color) as the SDC2300 which no one knows anything about? What happened to the F3 Compact then? Was this a last minute name change or 2 - different machines that Minelab will be selling now?

Just curious, thanks.

:)

The F3 Compact is just another version of the F3. It's still military but has a certain appeal to foreign consumers as well. Mostly commercial countermine agencies and governments alike.

lytle78, you forgot to mention that codan makes other high tech electronic products. who knows whats driving their stock prices. this is my last post on this because i don't really belong on the discussion.

This morning, the Australian Stock Exchange, at the request of Codan, halted trading in the shares of Codan until 12 December. Codan will issue a report prior to opening of trading on 12 December which revises their profit guidance for the first half of their fiscal year which ends on 31 December.

Codan received a "Price Query" letter from the Exchange regarding the steep fall in the value of Codan's shares from AUD 1.58 on 2 December to 1.345 on 9 December. The biggest part of this decline occurred on 9 December when it opened at 1.50 and closed at 1.30.

Codan's reply, which requested the halt in trading, cites "lower than expected sales in our three main markets in the month of November".

Minelab is unique in being the only one of the major detector manufacturers which is part of a publicly traded corporation. If Garrett or Whites had big sales drops, no one outside their ownership would know.

Before anybody gets too excited about this, it's worth pointing out that at it's current price level, the stock price is about where it was before the West African gold rush kicked off in mid 2012. Minelab did just fine at that time and there is no reason to expect that this reversion to a more normal stock valuation will have any marked effect on the continued development and production of the detectors which so many of us rely on.

Trading in Codan resumed this AM in Australia. Currently the safe price is down over 40%. Their announcement last night included the info that the SDC will reach market in 2014 . They also said that a new low priced detector (presumably for large retailers) would be released in FY 2015 - that's July 2014 - June 2015. The new technology gold detector is mentioned but no timing information is given.

This is all about Minelab. It's the only profitable line of business they have.

I hope we dont have to wait until the end of January to get the 0-60 times, horsepower and torque figures, slalom speed and other performance tidbits.
The most recent release this week is reminiscent of the incremental teaser CTX rollout. Ugh, that was painful, but highly effective.
I don't think ill jump in right away with both feet this time however. I'll wait and see. Can't do much here until it warms up anyway.
If I were the wagering sort I'd guess the minelab price will be a 3-4 c-notes higher than the ATX, further fueling the performance/bang-for-the-buck debate and comparisons.
Considering my needs and hunting style I might not pop for either machine after the dust settles. Of course its a lot easier to rationalize a major purchase when its sunny and warm!
Cheers

I just reread my post above about my labs press release. And I missed a word the SDC 2300 will be released in April 2014. I left out the month.

Part of what maybe driving Codan's stock prices is on other military sales that would be affected by the Chinese security breach of Codan's
Computers systems awhile back....

Cheers,

Tye
