Here it is the new Minelab info!

Wonder why they chose to make it with only one coil option? That is a HUGE turn off to me!

As I posted on the ML PI Forum:

Frankly, I had expected something more substantial in this announcement. Looks like a rush job.

Typo in the waterproof spec - "10 feet (3 feet)". Presumably the last should be 3 meters.

What the heck is MPF technology? GPX 5000 lists "MPS, DVT, SETA"

One coil (presumably only one) since the GPX 5000 lists "large coil range"

Small gold (presumably a limited set of settings/timings) since the GPX 5000 lists "many settings" and "multiple timings"

Rumor from Australia has it this will cost $3500.

Good job not competing with the GPX 5000 - not so sure about it being competitive with the ATX if the price rumor turns out to be true.

No more details for almost 8 more weeks. Sounds like it's still in late development or testing.

Classic pre-announcement to try and inhibit sales of competitor's product while your own is scrambling to get to market. Not to say it won't be great when it gets here - out in the spring or summer.

Yeah I'm pretty sure MPF was a typo too?

even the specs for it's cousin the Countermine F3 does not have the size of that stock coil...looks like maybe an 8"?

BK

Yes, probably a typo, but it appears that way 3 times in the document. Who knows? The f3 mine detector uses MPS, so it would seem logical that this one does too.

The whole thing was obviously rushed out in order to try and head off folks buying ATX detectors for Christmas presents.

They must be pretty concerned about the competition to pre-announce (last week) their pre-announcement (today) of their pre-announcement (31Jan 2014).

Looks like it...a bit sloppy if you ask me. Don't rush it, as bad stuff always happens when companies do that.

BK

do you guys know how pathetic you sound constantly knocking minelab? have you any idea how many millions of dollars and engineering man hours goes into making one of these machines? you are intelligent men and should know that this is cutting edge technology. if it performs well you all will benefit from it and make a profit as well. you guys just sit back in judgement and pick apart something that nobody even knows about yet.

I'm not knocking Minelab...read more carefully...I am referring to the news article itself is sloppy and hope the product is not rushed, because I want to GET ONE!
READ MORE CARFULLY NEXT TIME!

i have read it and i read all your posts and you are always knocking minelab. the truth is people will use what works and not what you say and what you show in a video. a detector stands on it's own merit not on how it is sold. minelab didn't develop a reputation by marketing, they developed a reputation by word of mouth. any serious detectorist is going to weed out what is good and what isn't so good and will use accordingly.

It's designed with the African gold rush in mind. I'll wait to pass judgment until I actually use one but I have to say, the fact that it only has one coil option is a big turn off. Also the fact that it only runs on C cell batteries isn't ideal. Be interesting to see how long the battery life is. I'm a huge Minelab fan because I'm always impressed by their products. So please... Don't say that I'm knocking them or complaining. I realize that there's millions of dollars tied up in their research which is why I'm so surprised to see the typos in the sneak peek add. Years worth of R&D and they ruin it by slipping up on a page that they know hundreds of thousands of people are waiting to read?

I'm going by the general direction of the info.
Compact, rugged, waterproof, proven tech.

Fits in between a Eureka Gold and a GPX series.
Without knowing much at all about it,... that should be pretty awesome.

i think all the new detectors are amazing. i started using a radio shack detector kit that cost $20.00 in the 60's. personally i like minelab but i am still blown away by modern detectors. that's why i would never knock them.

Enthusiasts like us may be less than totally satisfied with today's announcement, but I guess we are not the only ones. Codan's share price dropped 12.75% today.

Well, the page is getting a lot of attention because it won't open for me. :) Hopefully ML will have more coils available to it, because with only one they are already giving it a big obstacle to overcome. Now if this page would just load.....

Here is a more graphic and longer period performance of Codan for those who are interested. Just hit the rock bottom in the last 12 months.

Note - I have edited this to correct as much of my poor typing as I could find.

The point is it takes something to move the stock 12.75% in a day - it takes news. In June 2013, an announcement on slowing sales of detectors in Africa caused Codan to lose 37% of its value. After the publication of the Annual Report in October, the stock slumped further. This Annual report hi-lighted new developments - including a new mid-range PI gold detector.

The market decided that the 9 dec. news about this detector wasn't good news - resulting in a sharp drop. Perhaps it was because the announcement clearly showed that the detector was not going to market before Q1 2014 - at the earliest.

I thought the announcement was poorly done and clearly a rushed defensive marketing move. My opinion means nothing to anyone but me. It's just possible that investors had a similar opinion.

This has nothing to do with the actual performance of the 2300 whenever it appears. ML are the ones that decided to create these announcements. It is the announcement that this thread is about. We enthusiasts are the customers for their products, it is us that these announcements are intended for. We are each entitled to form our own judgement about them.

I hope it's a great product which meets the needs of most North American gold seekers. I also hope it is price competitive with the ATX and anything else that comes along. Also, if the gold price holds, Codan's stock might be a bargain at AUD 1.30 a share. They pay a whopping 10% dividend.

Thanks "Dr.Tones" for the information.

I'm a bit confused though (doesn't take much, hehe). Around May of this year MineLab had a convention (I believe) called Go MineLabbing 2013 in Copacabana. At that convention MineLab was displaying a compact/fold - up metal detector that was being introduced to the public called the F3 Compact. A video was made on the beach showing the features of this new machine to the public and would be available later in the year.

So this is where the confusion starts, where did this SDC2300 come from all of a sudden? Didn't MineLab drop the SD Series awhile back with much protest from the ML owners in doing so? I believe MineLabs response to their protest was "they knew what they we're doing", now they introduce the SD series again? This is what I don't get, do they "really" know what their doing?

I like the compactness of it for sure, but I'm wondering if MineLab isn't limiting themselves a bit with little, or no options for SDC2300, Is this going to be another Eureka Gold? I hope not. "If" the price is correct at $3500.00 then I think they have some real bumpy roads ahead of them with such a Limited Machine.

Just my take on the subject (I do like blue though).

:)
