Here is a tidbit; the shooting in Omaha that occurred at the Westroads Mall has a twist to it...

We now have the Jessica Lundsford Act. I do not have anything against the Act itself but I hate what the state has done with it. They have turned it into a money generating opportunity. The Act says that all contractors or sub-contractors that come onto school premises for any reason other than to come to the office or pick up a child, they now have to pass a background check and be approved (or proven) that they are not a child-molester. I, being a High School Softball Umpire, had to pass the same background check. Here's the problem........ it cost ME 85.00 bucks to prove that I am an innocent person ! The background check is good for 5 years but I find it hard to believe that in this day and age it costs that much money to check someones past history. The original Act was enacted for people that would have "unsupervised" contact with school children. As an Umpire, we NEVER have unsupervised contact with kids. Usually there are anywhere from 100 to 500 people watching us as all times. There would never be an opportunity to do something like that even if I were that kind of a monster. Just another way to tax us out of our hard earned money.
