Help!!

I was inthe same class as Joe. Also have a good friend that is a minelab dealer and user. He is also friends with the writer of the ctx book. I don't think two people are going to steer me wrong.

MARK !!
your makeing your self NUTS!! need to relax and go over your setup again .wen you turn on do a noise cancel about 6in. off the ground.
pick 1-or 2 modes out and take some disc.out of pat.1 and pat.2 remove bottom line and now you will have all metal in pat.2 use FC in
your 1 mode and your 2nd.mode use HT/GC ( your 2nd. mode relic or what ever you want) what ever works. dont make your detecting
experience a nightmare.the CTX is not all that difficult to master. take your time and give me a e-mail if you need some help

Good Stuff There Johnnyanglo!!

Once the CTX does the initial read of ambient EMI and adjusts to the best channel, I assumed it continued tracking. It makes sense that it probably doesn't, as you point out the recommendation by ML that you "occasionally Noise Cancel".

I absolutely agree, that, there is normally no need to manually ground balance. I personally have never encountered a condition that would make it necessary. In mentioning it, it was simply an example of when it IS NECESSARY to lower the coil near the ground level, as it is reading ground mineralization.

Thanks for your input Johnny!

We all have to decide for ourselves who's advice we will follow. I will do the method that Sabisch and some Minelab manuals state and NC on the ground. Makes more sense to me. I agree that no GB is needed.

To me it makes sense that noise cancel doesn't really care where you have the coil. That is, unless there are electrical signals in the ground nearby. As I have had to noise cancel regularly during single hunts due to getting closer to other detectors, closer to power lines, or in areas where underground utilities are it makes sense to me that it is cancelling EMI. I rarely do it automatically because I find its quicker (on the etrac) to do it manually. In response to someone who said two people won't lead you wrong, well what about the 10 people telling you otherwise? Changing frequencies is all it does. Getting a lot of chatter? Try another channel. Since I do it manually it doesnt matter where my coil is. I just want there to be no interference.
