Help!!!Xterra or Ace 250 or???

Looking at the picture you really need to get into that water! Maybe you should save a little more and get an Excalibur. You might just end up paying for it the first time out!

If you know that it hasn't been hunted, and it is a fresh water lake resort that is exclusively yours, one might thing to spend the extra for an excal, BUT, a x50 or ace would be fine to start, if it was busy especially early 30's. 40's and 50's. I know this is an xterra forum, but for a newbie the ace 250 is a very good machine. Sometimes I have to step back and remember when I started. That being said I started with a tesoro, you might want to try a silver saber. If I had exclusive rights to a old resort, I would not want to look at the visual ID. I would did everything. I would take a 10 yard by 10 yard swatch and go to it. I would think a summer lake resort would yield more gold than anything else. Good Luck.

The Whites Classic 5, the Garrett 550, or the Fisher ID Edge. All these fall into your price range; and all have ground balancing and visual target information. Their control boxes are not waterproof though.
If you can find a local metal detecting store, then he may be able to advice you more specifically than we can, as he will have a better idea of the mineralisation issues in your area.
The Ace can handle some mineralisation fairly well, if you notch out the bottom 3 notches, and run the sensitivity at 5 bars or less. With it set up like this, you still want miss anything of value, unless you are relic hunting and looking for items made of iron.
Good luck.

I think I should spend a little more to get a good a machine. Just having access to this history, I could pay for the machine on the first day.
Not counting on it but you never know. It's never been hit before unless it was done by the caretaker or unauthorized. Beside the beach, this place was a full working farm -early 1900's. I was also made aware there could be some good gold prospecting nearby.
The Xterra 70 sounds like it would do everything I need.

Thanks for all the advice! I'll post anything good I find on the site.
