Help with these finds

I know its hard to tell from the photo for sure but a friend says because the end pieces are bent around slightly that the two holes in each end piece could be the attachment point. He said some older furniture doors were thick and at a point scalloped out whereas your fingers would slide in behind the pull. The front of the doors were then flush without pulls extending out.
 
It kinda looks like a melted penny to me. I have found a couple that kinda looked like that.

Could be, but i don't see any marks to indicate that and i look with a magnifying glass. Who knows. Jim
