Well I can almost certainly say it’s nowhere near that old. To me, the lock looks like what seed companies would popularly distribute to customers in the 1900s. The brass piece it’s attached to appears to be a “shut off” or valve type mechanism. Maybe from a barrel? I’m unable to get those pics to blow up right now.

Funny you say that. It did have a knobby looking thing with the words on off with arrows. I thought it was just a piece that was stuck on it so I took it off.

Knocking my head here right now...... there is/was a fuel company with that triangle as part of its logo. Could have been a lock on a fuel tank...?

CITGO stations have an emblem similar. Could have been a farmers fuel barrel?

Oh, I've seen similar retainers in pictures somewhere ! But given my little experience, I can say that it is quite difficult to find it.
