So looking at XP detectors but a little confused both Deus and Orx
The specs give you info but its a little confusing how they actually operate, for example on the Orx says 27 frequencies in the coil. So is all the processing done in the coil vs the control box? As for the frequencies does it operate in SMF or are they individually chosen? Does the Orx and Deus operate the same way?
I can’t seem to find how each detector operates how many models currently available etc. if anyone can help break up the available models and how they operate that would be greatly appreciated.
Also the breakdown is everything wireless on all and what does the control box actually do. I thought i read where you don’t even need that little control box and just use the shaft and coil. How do the headphones work, where is the battery for everything etc. sorry for all the questions but it doesn’t appear like a regular detector where everything is basically in one rather everything seems to be separate and again a little confusing. Thanks

XP uses a bit of marketing spiel when it comes to all the claimed frequencies. Most of those are offsets of the main frequencies - which vary depending on the coil.

My understanding is that the remote is the receiver, and the coil does most of the lifting.

There are batteries in the coils, the remote (controller) and the wireless headphones.

Single frequency (Deus 1 and ORX).

Both the Deus 1 and the ORX operate that way. The Deus 1 has a lot more options, but the two have essentially the same power.

The ORX and the Deus 1 do not have the same operating systems, but the ORX programs (4) are based on programs in the Deus 1. I believe the Deus 1 has 9 base programs.

Everything is wireless (assuming you buy the wireless backphones). Either a blessing or a curse - depending upon your take. I tend to like it, but it does mean you're charging 3 things (remote, coil, headphones).

For the ORX the models basically come down to coil choice and if you want the wireless headphones (backphones) or not. There are 4 coils - a 9-inch x35 coil, a 11-inch x35 coil, a 9-inch hf coil, and an elliptical hf coil.

The Deus 1 has those 4 coil choices and receiver choices - the remote (control box) or the puck (slides on/off the backphones). You can get both the remote and the puck (that is what I have). The puck can act as a receiver (to the remote), or it can be used as a standalone 'controller" (allows you to control many of the settings). The Deus 1 can also use (depending upon the software version) the older LF coils.

For example - I can use the remote, with the puck on the backphones. In that example the remote is controlling my settings and sending the signal to the backphones. The puck receives the signal and produces the sound.

I can take just the puck and control most of the settings - without the remote.

The Mi6 pinpointer can be paired with both the Deus 1 and the ORX. Once paired, you can control the pinpointer from the remote.

For me the ORX is an absolute blast to hunt with. It has some shortcomings for the type of hunting I prefer (coin) but it is very capable.

The Deus 1 is more involved and has a lot more user settings. It is an amazing machine.

Edit - there is a 13-inch coil too. I forgot about it (don't own it).

Wow thats alot to take in lol
So does the deus 1 and orx basically have the same features and work the same ? I don’t hunt coins per say not really alot of old coins around here just some beach with usual junk and park hunting for most part. Maybe little relic stuff.
So deus 1 and orx are only single frequency where you can choose a frequency? I would probably only use a 9” coil do you need different coils for different frequencies like the xterra ir can you choose all the frequencies with one coil. If I wanted smf is that on the deus 2 ?
All are available with a remote or puck option ? Also reminds me of detector pro detectors where you have the shaft with coil and everything is operated in the headset.
So i can get one coil and a remote and use any BT headset or has to be xp headset? Sorry again and thanks for the info. The set up again is a bit different and confusing without looking at it

Deus 1 has a lot more features (settings).
The two work the same.
Either is an excellent choice for relics. Not the best choice for beach hunting (unless it is dry sand). I have hunted wet (salt) sand with the ORX - it did OK, but there are better options if that is the type of hunting you'll do a lot of. You cannot put the coil under the water though - you'll lose the wireless signal. They do sell an antenna kit that will allow you to use the coil under water. The remotes are not waterproof - put them in a sealed plastic bag or buy the waterproof kit if you want to hunt in water.

Yes, you choose one frequency.

The x35 coils are lower frequencies - from (roughly) 4kHz to 28 kHz.
The hf coils are higher frequencies - from (roughly) 13 kHz to 59 kHz (round coil). The elliptical coil is (roughly) - 13kHz to 81 kHz.

The ORX automatically normalizes the VDI numbers (setting them to the numbers that you would get at 18 kHz).
The Deus can normalize the VDI numbers with the x35 coils. You can also turn that off. You cannot normalize the VDI numbers with the HF coils (on the Deus 1).

So a dime at 81 kHz is going to be a much higher VDI number than the same dime at 13 kHz. That can be an advantage though.

The ORX does not have the same functionality with the puck it has on the backphones. It cannot control the modes/settings.

You'd have to have a BT transmitter hooked up to the remote/puck to use BT headphones. XP uses a proprietary wireless system.

There is an update for the Deus 1 that allows it to use the WSA (ORX) headphones. They are far less expensive but cannot control any of the settings/modes (you'd have to have your remote with you).

Both are amazing in iron. If you hunt old sites with a lot of iron bits and pieces, they are among the best machines available (IMO anyway).

In modern trash (aluminum) you really have to either dig everything or pay close attention to the VDI numbers when using the ORX. That's because it has only a 3-tone option (the two coin programs) and no ability to set tone breaks. It also pushes such items into much higher VDI numbers than I was accustomed to. For me it was a big problem at first - now not so much because I've grown accustomed to it. Still, the ORX wouldn't be my recommendation for someone who plans to hunt modern parks and such (lots of aluminum trash).

The Deus 1 is better, in that regard, because it has so many more settings available. Despite it being better (in modern trash) I still wouldn't recommend the Deus 1 to someone who mostly hunts in modern trash. For that type of hunting, I think there are better choices.

For me the ORX is one of the most fun machines I've ever used/owned. It is so light weight, so incredibly fast, and so easy to use. I do enjoy the Deus 1 as well, but it requires a bit more user input and sometimes I just want to have fun without really thinking about it.

Yes, the Deus II is multi-frequency. I do not own one, so I don't know much about it. I believe it has fewer coil options, but more headphone options.
Well thanks so much for the help.
Oddly enough i live by the beach but don’t like to beach hunt anymore perhaps because im bored with the beach at this point. Doesn’t mean I won’t anymore so would prefer something that could be good on the beach as well.
Which brings up one important point that i would want it to be waterproof.
Just about every new detector in the upper price range is waterproof and im a bit surprised they aren’t. Seems after learning more about them that probably the Deus 2 would fit everything i prefer, smf, waterproof etc. i assume that the Deus 2 would have all that, but at a much higher price lol
Kind of wanting the best of both worlds, easy and fun but with certain features.

XP sells a lite version of the Deus II.

No remote. Just the puck/headphones, the coil, and the shaft.

Call one of the forum sponsors for your best deal. I highly recommend Backwoods Detectors (Richard). Great guy with a lot of experience.

Big Boys Hobbies (Bart) is very good as well.

So whats the difference between remote and no remote. What can you do or not do. Is it waterproof either way and smf
Thank again for your help

As I understand it - and I could be wrong, as I do not own the Deus II and have never used one - the remote is waterproof, but the puck is not. My understanding is that the WS6 (puck) is weatherproof, but not waterproof.

They sell a Deus II version with the remote (no puck). I believe that version retails somewhere around $1200. It does not come with wireless headphones.

They sell a Deus II version with the puck (WS6 -wireless headphones) and no remote. That version does not come with the remote. I believe that version retails around $800.

I believe the Dues II lets the user make any adjustment possible with either the puck or the remote.

I think either version allows the user to connect the waterproof headphones, but I am not positive about that.

Both versions are smf.

I don't know if the Deus II puck is the same size as the Deus 1 puck, but for me the Deus 1 puck is very difficult to read (without glasses). That is why I have never hunted with it as the standalone controller on my Deus 1. The puck (Deus 1) is roughly the circumference of a typical 12 oz soda can. The screen is nowhere close to being that large.

If you're looking for the least expensive option and you're fine with the puck being the controller, that is probably the way to go. You can always put the puck in a zip-lock bag just in case a wave hits you.

On the other hand, if your eyes demand a larger screen (like mine do) and you're ok with spending a bit more... the remote version is probably the way to go.

Either version gets you multi-frequency.

If you press the two buttons on the right side of the WS6 puck it increases the numerals to full screen size. The main difference between the remote and pick is the puck only has one notch , remote has three. The remote has the X/Y screen -the puck does not. The remote is more user friendly. If u buy the puck, stem and coil 799.00 u can purchase the WSAII backphones (wireless) for 149.00. Get a wristband to see screen better.

Thanks guys. So waterproof is only the remote? When you say put the puck in a ziplock isn’t the puck part of your headphones. Excuse my ignorance but when you say puck one notch, remote three are you talking about the notch in the discrimination scale? As for the whole puck vs remote thats where it gets pretty confusing.
Seems as if puck and remote can do the same things but more user friendly with remote. Remote waterproof, puck no.
I understood as puck is headphones but you say you can get the puck and purchase wireless headphones separately. So if you just have the puck how do you get sound.
I think maybe im not understanding what the puck actually is or how it functions.
im thinking like a standard detector where you have the shaft that just holds the coil, and some type of control box that has the battery, the motherboard with processor etc and the either a speaker on the control box or wireless headphones.
Im still trying to wrap my head around what part does what on the deus 2 and the features.
So if i want the least expensive way to have a shaft with 9” coil that does smf and single frequency as well (?) and get sound either wireless or by speaker (really confused on how that works) and waterproof, what is typically the setup.
I think if I understood where the processor is and how it gets the info and sound to you it would help alot.
For example if you have no remote where is the processor, how do you read the target id numbers and how do you get sound. Can you get just a remote no puck what are the sound options.
See not really understanding the different components and exactly what they do makes everything very confusing. I imagine if i had one in front of me it would be very easy to understand how it works together. I wish xp had some diagrams explaining everything but i haven’t seen any.
Sorry for the confusion.

Go to the XP website, it’s pretty clear on the differences between the Remote and puck , the remote is basically the full package. The Ws 6 master is the puck . I don’t go in the water so the Puck (ws6 master ) is what I use . It is a great setup. More affordable for me.

If you buy the Deus lite you can use their new wireless headphones which are nice

One of the biggest differences between the remote & puck, is you cant do any updates with the puck. You must use the remote for software updates.
There have been several for the Deus 1 but nothing for the D2, yet. I heard one is on its way.

You mentioned beach hunting. If its fresh water the D1 will work fine but you cant submerge the coil. You'll need the antennae. Salt water, no. Must use multi-frequency.

PS Should you decide to buy the ORX, I have a virtually new one with wireless headphones and a 9" round HF coil. Just the shaft is used but like new.

I’ve used the Deus 1 on the Beach saltwater to it worked but not as well as a multi frequency detector

The Deus1 had the remote and puck setup and you had to use the remote when updating. The Deus II with puck is different. The puck is the slave when used with the remote as a headphone. When the puck is used as the master I.e. alone the remote must be turned off. It has its own 12 programs and are never exchanged with the remote. The Puck(WS6) can be updated without the remote, unlike the Deus 1 if you wanted to update you had to find a friend who had a remote to do updating. Updating the WS6 is on the Deus website. Bfull information is available there. Xpmetaldetectors.com

Yeah i would want multi frequency so the orx and D1 would probably be out.
I wouldn’t think they would put out a setup on the D2 like the D2 lite and not make it updatable.
Im curious as to the weight of the shaft and 9” coil setup on the D2 lite if you don’t attach the puck on the shaft.
I would think that the majority of the weight is also in the coil and how does it balance
