The MXT is an excellent machine. I have one and I suppose it is a better machine in that it has more features,
such as VCO pinpointing, depth indicator, etc that the Scorp does not have. Both are good machines. Its just that the
Scorp doesn't have all the features of the MXT. If you can afford it then by all means the MXT but if its a matter of money
the Scorp will do you well.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with whatever detector you buy. Hope you find some nuggets of pure gold. You might want to read up on the gems and minerals of your area, because you might find something besides gold if you know what you're looking for. Most mountain area are rich in some types of minerals or gems. Happy hunting.
 
In case one is hunting old mining areas platinum is one thing to look for. In the Gold Rush days it was worthless and the miners threw it away.
