Help if you can!!!

Hi friends!
I have been using an Excal 800 for a couple of years & love it. I do most of my hunting in the water, but I want to get an extra machine to hunt on land. I have a chance to get a Fisher CZ 6, in good condition, for a couple hundred dollars. But I see a lot of guys using Garrett Ace 250 that I can get new for only a few dollars more. I really need some advice on which machine you think I would get better results with. I do enjoy hunting land, but have never used either of these machines. Please post with your help. Don't be fooled by the inexpensiveness of the Ace 250.......it is a real hunting hound that you will be pleased with.

HI Anthony, checkout the new Whites coin master, new at $179.00 same as Ace, today my friend found a 1945 walking half with his. He love his detector.

If you can get a CZ6 for less than a new Ace 250 ... take some coins, tabs and a small nail and make sure it works; if it does, BUY IT.

It is deeper and if you want to do double duty on the wet sand, the CZ will handle wet salt sand and the Ace really doesn't do well there.

The down side to a CZ6 is that it has a different coil connector than the CZ6a, CZ5 and newer CZ's, so if the connector hasn't already been changed, you are limited in coil availability until the connector is changed.

CZ's are very good detectors. If it turns out you don't like it, you could very likely just trade it for a new Ace, or sell it for more and keep the difference.

If sandman said this about the 6a, and the one your looking at is in good condition...think I would go for it. Not that i don't like the Ace 250, but around the wet salty sand, they go crazy..Good Luck.....joe

buy it!!!!!! great detector, should get 10 inches plus on a dime., dual frequency( will handle salt/wet sand)., pretty sure it has audioboost(faint deep signals will be as loud as the shallow signals. salt and normal modes. water resistant/weatherproof, don't worry about a splash or hunting in the rain.

ace 250 wont even come close, does not have ground balance. single frequency,(wont handle wet salt) ...............no contest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would think twice about either detector. The Garrett provides good performance in and slightly above its price range but is outclassed by more expensive detectors whilst as mentioned below the CZ6 is the oddity in the Fisher CZ range with a different coil connector and pigtail for the headphones. Worse its going to be old. I think they came out about 1995 and were replaced by the 6a a few years later. There's 21 or 22 internal trimmers/adjustments and they all need to be spot on. You should also check out if the new "Bounty Hunter" Fisher will or can carry out repairs or if there's a third party repairer.

CZ's are really good machine's if working correctly but there's always a risk buying older detectors.

Have used cz6a for years, and is still being used by my son today,...very good unit.!
I'm now have a ( used) Excal 1000, I'm told the Sovereign is the same ! Don't know if I wouldn't look for a used Sov, to keep the sound the same ?

The fisher CZ-6 is a good detector.
Just dont leave the battery's in it when you are not using it.
Even when it is off it uses power ans the battery's will be depleted in just a few days sitting in the closet.
Depleted battery's are prone to leaking.

This is one of the problems that was fixed in the CZ-6A.

Never heard or experienced this problem with the CZ6. It was a problem with the CZ7.
