Hello from another newbie ...

Lone Wolf

New member
Howdy All,

My first post ... please be kind ....

Just a little background. I borrowed an old Radio Shack detector for a trip to the beach last year. I thought it might be fun to play around with. After MUCH frustration, I finally found two rusty bottle caps and some tin foil. I figure that if I invest it right I might be able to retire in about 3000 years ! I later discovered that the detector that I borrowed would barely find a quarter that I threw on top of the ground. A friend of mine who has a Mine Lab couldn't get it to work either so I felt a bit better. That was last summer. Fast forward ahead to last week. I discovered a shop close by that sells metal detecting equipment. I wandered in and browsed around. Long story made short, I left with a bright yellow ACE 250. MAN ... what a difference ..... I've been out just a few times to public parks. I'm fairly certain that this time of year they have already been searched quit a bit. I still have come up with about $1.50 or so in clad, and most of it was in the 6 to 8 inch depth range and this was just in a few hours. Even more important is that I'm having a blast.

Well, just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I'm sure that I will be in here with questions quite often.

Thanks,
LW

I'm new, too so welcome from another newbie.

Just got the 2500 last month and the bug bit bad.

I found the forums through :garrett: website.

Visit some of the other forums, too. I'm having a lot of fun on the Whatzit forum

I have only been detecting on my property, where back in the old days I junked cars.. I have been mowing over aluminum cans here since there has been aluminum cans, and I can tell you I am getting an education on what trash sounds like.

I must not have had many coins to lose back when , since the only coins I have found are 1 clad dime and a zinc penny.

I have searched where my Grandad and his friends and brothers used to sit in the shade evenings and holidays. Nothing. You know in those days most older guys carried coin purses , so very few lost coins.

I bought a detector back in the '70s or '80s. I forgot what brand it is. I will dig it out and look at it now and see if it still works.
Best I remember I never found anything with it and gave up on detecting. Bought it at Montgomery Wards in Ft. Worth, Texas. When it was a big store, multi-storied, I forgot how many, and all floors merchandise for sale. Families would go and spend the entire day there.

I am learning a lot on the forums and I lurked awhile before joining and it seems as there are a great bunch of folks here. Charles Garrett says detectorists are some of the finest people on earth. He may know, apparantly he has seen a lot of them.

Just learn your detector and have fun. There are some pro's here and if anyone can help they will.
Post pictures when you can.. We would love to see your finds.
