Headphones For Tesoro Detectors

tabman

Active member
Which headphones do you like to use with your Tesoro detector and why do you like them?

Thanks
tabman

I have a set of Calrad headphones that I have used for years. If it aint broke don't fix it.

I use Gray Ghosts. Sharp, clear sound, and very good at shutting out outside noise -- maybe to a fault if detecting in snaky or less desirable parks etc.

I use some Detector Pro Rattlers.
To be honest, I have been less than impressed with them the more i use them.

There are several good headphones on the market, but it's the SunRay Golds for me..........:clapping:

How are they any different from my Killer B's Wasp headphones? They sound great and really sharp, but for some reason I'm not hearing the threshold tone well enough to ground balance my Vaquero properly. Maybe the 'limiter' is causing the problem. I'll try to ground balance tomorrow with it turned off. Another thing, I'm real lucky have two equally bad ears, so I don't need dual volume controls. I really hate messing with two. I'd like to find some headphones that are light weight that work well with my Vaquero. The lightweight ones that I do have (Koss KTXPRO1 Titanium) work great on my Golden and Compadre, but sound terrible on my Vaquero for some reason.

I have used Grey Ghosts for several years. Good sound, comfortable, silences outside noise really well and are very durable.

I have been using Killer Bee "optima" headphones since I purchased my Vaquero and am not looking for anything else as I am very impressed with the sound and build quality.
These headphones only have one volume control which I like, but they do not have a limiter function on them if that is important to you.
I don't feel the need for this function, so am satified with them.
I like these because they fit snug and don't get pulled off when hunting in brush, they block ambient sounds very good, and they are comfortable.
I also have a set of gray ghost originals, but I am not impressed by them personally... I think the Killer Bees are far better quality in my opinion.

I use single volume control Ratphones. They really work well with my Umax,
They really bring out the tonal quaility of my Cutlass II Umax

For the prices of the headphones listed here, they better take a beating. Anyone know of 50.00 Good ones?

I have not used killerB's but the Golds mellow out the harsh tones for me..The Ghosts seem to amplify the deep targets just abit more that I can hear them better.. All headphones of quality brands work well in my opinion..and like detectors ..it's preference of what you like, and what your used too..

I think any of the top quality name brands will suit you well. I have a pair of Jolly Rogers that have served me extremely well over the past 7 years. Also have a set of Killer Bee's which get a lot of use and are still going strong. I guess you get what you pay for.

As I mentioned above, I've been satisfied with the Gray Ghosts, however I think any of the better name phones designed for detectors are probably good. I do have a pair of Garrett Easy Stow phones that were given as prize at a seeded hunt that I carry for backup. For a less expensive headphone, I find them pretty decent. I always have them in my kit as a backup.

For what it's worth I have three detectors and three different sets of headphones. Killer Bees, Rats, and Grey Ghosts. The Killer Bees get the most use but I also really like the Rats. Depends on which detector I use. The Grey Ghosts are OK, I just don't use them very much.

I just tested my new Eldorado and it sounds just fine with Koss KTXPRO1 Titanium. Go figure

I hunt woods and some parks that are not so safe, so I want to hear what going on around me.

I'm aware that the full ear covered headphones work much better, but I just don't feel comfortable wearing them in some of the places that I hunt.

I have and use both, keeping one set as a 'back-up', if needed.

I have used my Killer B 'Wasp' headphones since they came out and have been impressed with their comfort, crisp audio response, the independent volume controls (by bad hearing), and the limiter switch (although I don't use it that often). They are excellent headphones with 150 ohm impedance speakers.

The maker of Killer B is also the maker of the SunRay Pro Gold headphones, which are virtually identical to the Killer B Wasp. A difference in the SunRay's is that the ear-cup pads are different material, the toggles are "dressed up" a bit, and the volume controls rotate the opposite direction to increase and decrease the audio (as they had requested). I set either pair at full volume and hunt away! Best headphones on the market for the dollar, in my opinion.

Like Diggerdug have two set of inexpensive calrads that have worked well on any unit I ever used. The one I use is 8 years old and the other is a spare for the trunk so its new....

Diggerdug, I use CALRADS too, I got mine from Rusty.
