Making our annual trip down this Saturday. Camping at First Landing all week, -as long as the hurricane doesn't wipe it out!
I'm hoping to experience hunting a fresh cut after the storm. I have yet to find any gold but I think this will be my year.
I am usually just lurking around here absorbing all the information I can. You guys are very helpful and hopefully I will get to meet some of you during my stay. Seems like we no sooner get camp set up and we have to tear it down and head home..
I have hunted for years inland, but not on a regular basis lately. I get to hunt the beach once a year and I am slowly building up my gear. I just bought a long-handled scoop at the local treasure hunting shop (I think it is RTG) and it should make things a lot easier. The last few years I have used the old $20 scoop.
I have an older White's Surfmaster PI that does a good job with depth and small targets. I sometimes wish I had some discrimination when it gets really trashy but it sounds like nobody here uses discrimination anyway. My next step I think is going to be an Excalibur. It seems like that is the unit everyone relies on to get the gold. I am crossing my fingers for some decent finds this year, possibly to finance that step! Anybody know where I could rent one for a day just to see how I like it?
Last year I found what looked like an old spanish coin from the 1700's, but it turned out to be a replica.... Now who would have done such a thing??? :veryangry:
-I think it was the guy in the Bounty Hunter hat that pointed me in that direction...LOL
