DG, when I hear stories like that I am reminded that some people exist to make up lies to make others feel bad.

Was thinking the same thing.

yep!!!!!!

Yea!!! I think Tats are the new bling. If we can only convince everyone that as they age, and unless they die young all those Tats are going to sag, discolor and get wrinkled, then we may find more bling. I personally despise Tats and think they are low class, low rent statements on a persons class, success and character. Get out there with the bling flashing and people will at least quess you are wealthy and successful but with the Tats its like reading old funny papers and there ain't no second quessing that message. If Tats are your thing then at least stand still long enough so someone can read you.

yeah, Grunter, tats are definitely a statement of an unsuccessful individual to me. bot even more, its a statement of a lack of Brains- what kind of psycho subjects themselves voluntarily to pain???? I spend my time Avoiding unnecessary pain!

(drunken military tats excepted, of course!)

What a stupid statement blaming Obama redistribution of wealth the 5% still control it and want the rest

Someone passed me on the Interstate this evening driving an all Black Lamborghinia Aventador. Mind you I am not coveting them their car, I just want to detect the beach that they frequent.

I will blame my lack of finds to not being out detecting. For the past month or so it has rained so much that I think I am growing moss on my backside.

I have been able to get out a couple of times to do a little Mud Fishing for clad. But my beach trips have been very few due to the rain.

The Weather Guessers are saying the next three days are going to be nice. I am just trying to decide where I could go and have a good opportunity to find a Nice Gold ring.

Trade me George. We have seen less than 1/8" of rain since August. Lowest in recorded history here. I've quit detecting because it isn't worth the wear/pain on my wrists to dig up the targets.

3 1/2 inches of the wet stuff on Cape Cod yesterday

There should be a pull-tab retribution system out there...
Every 100 pull-tabs collected, get a free cup of nice warm coffee (Winter).
Every 100 pull-tabs collected, get a free scoop of ice cream (Summer).
:pulltab:
:super:

Lack of finds contribute to more than just the things you mention. Here are a few.

1. Because of all the reality shows, more people are aware of what they could lose in the water and take precautions.
2. All the people detecting now, a lot more than in previous years because of the shows, means fewer older drops being found.
3. Because of air conditioning, people are not flocking to the water like they used to EXCEPT coastal vacation cities,
4. Because of the price of gold, it is not being worn as much. Stainless, Tungsten and Titanium are the new age metals and are worthless trash
5. Older drops are drying up. Sure you can still find them but a lot more work and patience are needed.

Here in Michigan, you have to think outside the box in order to keep finding targets. I found a little over 3 grand in gold this year. Not great but decent. I go where others do not most the time. I found maybe 2 or three fresh drops, the rest all old. One of the fresh drops was a 3.4 gram 14K earring that gave a very iffy signal.

Anyway, The lack of targets will do a few things also. A lot of At-Pro machines and others will be for sale soon as people get discouraged. The ones that keep on playing will keep finding targets. Of course not as many as the past but they will still find things.

When I started in the early 2000's underwater I was bringing home 3 - 6 gold rings every trip. My wading friends were shocked. I understand why now BUT, I still find area's that are full of targets and have never been touched. One day this year I found 3 walking liberty halves in one dive. You know it is an untouched place when that happens.

I personally blame AT Pro's and retired people that watched one too many episodes of diggers!!!! There are a lot more people doing it now these days and once productive sweet spots are now hit hard. You can still find goodies, you are gonna just spend more time to get them.

To increase my finds I would like to have a law passed that said it was illegal for retired people to metal detect. They could just golf or fish, and seriously, that is more than enough entertainment for them! When I get retirement age, of course I would like the law reversed! I would also like to see a law passed that only allowed people with AT Pro's to hunt for no more than 1 hour a week. They could avoid this law by selling there detectors or taking them to a collection point, at which point they could just buy a land detector (I'm thinking something made by Radio Shack). This would make things easier for me!

That's funny, the older we get, the more Pirate we get, so no Laws are going to stop us old geezers
So all you workers "Swabbing the decks" Me boys are going to be digging treasure

I can laugh now, but in reality I'm not that far from Geezer status!

As you get closer to "geezer" age you find you will have more time to dig like the rest of us. We call you none "Geezer" types wannabee's, let us know what its like when you get there?

Gerry:detecting:

I see other metal detectorist with good finds, but I haven't had much luck lately. Maybe people are getting smarter, seeing us detecting and keeping the gold in the room.
