Have a vid chart

I've been using an MXT for several years now, and at first it was pretty frustrating. I found the VID charts quite exciting at the time, and they still are if you want to "cherry pick" for one certain item. Gold, however, is a different matter entirely. Some gold rings will come in at VID 45 or so but if you rely on this number to find all gold, you will miss a lot. Gold will be found all through the "garbage range" depending on the size and shape of any individual piece. I've found small gold rings and earrings as low as 7 or 8.

The bottom line is, to find all gold you have to do a LOT of work and dig most every trash signal above iron range. That's why a lot of gold is still in the parks and hills. Most people won't put in the effort to find it, including myself most of the time. Discrimination is a two-edged sword for the detectorist.
