Has anyone used a X-Terra for water hunting.

Elton, most people think a Sovereign coil will work fine on the Excal, but according to the Minelab disclaimer one meter depth, this isn't going to work for a water unit, and even a wader may exceed that one meter depth. Thanks Ron

Anyone using the 705 in salt water? What is the largest coil that can be used in salt water hunting. Also what setting would you use?

I ordered a small airtight box that will be carried in the back pocket of the vest.I have an old pair of Grey Ghost headphones, which I'll just go old school.Recharging the wireless every 6 hour is more work to contend with at this point. I'll disconnect the 1/4 inch plug on the headphones and reconnect once the cord is ran through a small drilled hole and water proofed.Same with the patch cord which I will finish after the case is received and drilled.I'll get some photos once completed.

To be honest a xterra is horrible in salt water. But really good in the sand beside the salt water. But as soon as the salt water touches the sand they go crazy with chattering. But fresh water they are great.

What about mounting the XTerra in a box like above and then on top of a big thick piece of styrephone say 2' in diameter with the cord going down threw the center or use a innertube with a flat board or a kitchen cutting board cut in a circle and zip tied to the top of the tube for calm water only . That way you wold gain som wire length rather than loosing so much going all the way up to your shoulder or back. Just a thought I was thinking of doing . Would give about three feet in depth.

Got the box in a couple of days ago yes the X-Terra fit in the box but no room to work with the coil connector or ear phone connection. What seemed like a good idea needs to be rethought.Put Waders on and went out today 47 degrees comfortable,my conclusion using the XT50 in the lake. The X-Terra works great on land but in the water a different animal, unstable and and lots of noise. In defense of the XT I was not able to make adjustments as needed in the water the box was in the upper wader bib pocket and couldn't even get to the power button until on land.Maybe there is a reason Minelab never developed kits for these small boxes to be converted to water detectors.HH Ron
