has anyone used a J W fisher x8 pulse water detector

hi all, a mate of mine is looking at the j w fisher x8 pulse water detector so i thought I'd ask if any of you fine detectorists have any experience with this model.
it looks like a great water unit as it has interchangeable coils which is big on my wish list, it also looks nice & robust that's a must for a ham fisted fella like me .
i was just wondering about it's sensitivity to small gold rings, the average detection depth & how it copes with black sand/ highly mineralised sand.
any help would be much appreciated.

Its more used for divers. They use them for locating shipwrecks etc. Not really somthing a beach comber would use.

I'm fairly certain that the pulse delay will be too slow for decent sensitivity to small gold rings.
Detectors such as this and units such as the Aquapulse have delays at around 30uS...great for diving in deeper waters but not so good for the shallow water hunter.

I own an original Pulse 8, and although I have been unable to use mine yet due to a dead rechargable battery, I have called and spoke with JW Fishers as to how it fairs on the beach. They informed me that these units, both the 8 and 8X, function at a pulse rate of 100uS and are suited quite well for beach hunting. They claim it to be as sensitive to small objects (coins and rings) as any other PI unit out there. They also mentioned that there is much word circulating with false implications that this unit will not due well on small gold and is only suited for diving. They assured me that this was not the case and that it will perform with the big dogs or even better then other PI's on the market (I spoke with R&D, not a salesman). I'd say go for it!!

A pulse delay of 100uS won't even see a gold ring at any real depth.....I would have to see it with my own eyes to believe any such claims.

The 100uS might be the pulse width which is entirely different to pulse delay

The delay relates to the time elapsed between the end of the transmit signal (pulse) and receiver sampling, whereas the width is the time of each transmitted signal (pulse).

The pulse rate is just that, usually measured as pulses per second (pps)....can be hundreds or even thousands per second.

Can JW Fishers clarify this?

I have checked target responses (gold rings) with my Goldquest SS which has a pulse delay starting at 10uS (very sensitive to small gold ring) all the way to 30uS....where the signal was significantly reduced in deetction depth. A pulse delay of 100uS wouldn't even generate a response in my estimates.

I use a Pulse 8 and love it, the only thing is you have to dig every target which results with a lot of junk.
The sensitivity seems excellent to me I often give up digging and move on because I can't get deep enough, thats while I'm diving, on dry land may be different.

I just wish I knew what the minimum PULSE DELAY was.......15uS, 20uS, 30uS, 40uS, 50uS, 60uS.......???.....
