have I turned it into an E-TRAC... no, not yet.
I am looking forward to using it in a couple of places I have hunted before, where I know there are still good targets but I know a specialized program is needed to separate them from all the iron and aluminum that is there too. Another place I hunt, I am looking forward to trying the "deep silver" program with a switch to the 22.5khz setting. There is just a lot of time and thought involved in tweaking the V3... and I don't know if it's me or the meds but thinking isn't my strong suit. I'll get it done though!!
The V3 is a keeper, it can be frustrating if you let it be. It can be like waiting too long to eat then going to a restaurant with a 10 page menu... and looking at it too long. Pretty soon, you have no idea what you want. Sometimes it is a good thing to reset "coin and jewelry" to factory default and just hunt.
Really though, I enjoy using the V3, even when I am not sure what I am doing... and when I am certain that I would making more finds with another detector. I still enjoy it and am convinced that it will continue to be new to me for years.
It, for me, is a totally different experience from the time I spent learning to use the Explorer SE. The experience was totally frustrating and I went through it for a year before I finally began to become comfortable with it, the SE. I forced myself to use the SE for an hour or so almost every day (I hunt almost everyday for three seasons) then I would get out my F75, which I had used as my #1 for over a year before getting the SE. I would find little to nothing with the SE then immediately begin to make finds... immediately, when I switched to the F... but I was determined to learn to use the SE... I finally switched to Ferrous/multi-tone and began to understand it a little. I said all that to say this: The V3 learning experience is NOTHING like the SE experience was.. it is enjoyable, the tones are pleasing. The display is nice, colors and curves and I do make finds with it. I make more finds easier with the ET but the V3 is a top notch machine that I am convinced will trump every other machine at certain places and in certain conditions. No one detector is the best at every site and every condition but the V3 has more potential to be that machine than any other... once it is fully understood.
Sorry to ramble but it is one of those days...
