Guys tell me what you think!!

I have a cz-5 and a cz3d have been thinking about selling or trading one of my detectors in order to try a digital cz, so would you guys fill me in on your thoughts or tell me if it would be a mistake to do so! Also are the analog cz's coils compatible with the digital cz's?

I think it all depends on the type of hunting you do most. If you hunt a lot of older areas I would stay with the 3D. The 70 will work just as good but then some of the older coins like indians will hit in the relic zone. The 70 does have some features the other two dont also. I mainly hunt older sites so the 3D works better for me. I do belive the coils are compatible. There are certain models where they werent but I think it was the real older models. Maybe Christopher will chime in. He has a ton of experience with both I believe.

If you don't need to notch stuff out, stay with what you have. They all work similarly. The coils are interchangeable between the digital and analog cz's. Hope this helps. Bob.

The CZ-6, CZ-7a pro & Cz70 are rain proof, splash proof & dust proof but not submersible. The CZ-5 & 3D are not. If you want a rain machine the first three are it. I have a 7a pro & have used it in heavy rain with no problems. The CZ-20,21 are totally submersible.

Digger70pa which one you prefer? Cz3d or cz7a pro? As far as performance are they pretty close to being the same?

If you don't need to notch anything out, stick with the 2 you have. The digital CZ's are a tad slower in response and ID, and the sensitivity setting can't be fine tuned like the analogs. On the plus side, there aren't any knobs, other than the GB knob, that can move and I think some of them have a back light ( plus the notching feature).

All the coils are interchangeable ( obviously on the non-waterproof CZ's !) except the coils for the CZ6. DIfferent pin configuration.

Parts for the digital screen are becoming very
obsolete these days and I heard they are
becoming very hard to get parts for... JMHO
You have better machines anyway, why trade up?

I like my CZ-3D. It's a hotter machine more sensitive. Not that my 7a pro isn't just the first thing I noticed with the 3D was it's touchy. You can make it unstable.

Don't give up the other two but watch for a digital one you can afford. I have a CZ3 and a CZ70. I loved the fact that it broke down so easily for airline travel. I used it on the beach, since it is somewhat protected from splash and waves. It does have a back light. I have used it in old yards and it does get the job done.

I have often wondered too about the availability of digital screens in the not so distant future. But then again all the ones I have had or seen that friends have owned since new with not one problem. So they must be durable like the rest of the CZ is.

hi bill!
can you be specific as to WHAT older sites you hunt?
are you hunting older sites that contain a lot of modern trash?
if so,i was of the impression, the cz-3d is NOT meant fro these sites
because it "pulls" tons of trash to a high tone?..comment?..thanks!

Yea j.t., I dont like the cz at all in high trash....to slow. Need a speedster like a f-75 with the dd coil.

The site I made the video at is loaded with trash like pull tabs, beaver tails, etc and I did not have any problems digging trash. The only trash I dug was some nickel signals that turned out to be certain type of pull tabs. Not saying that it wont do that at certain sites but the ones I hunt are mostly public places with the usual type of trash like, can slaw, pull tabs, bottlecaps, etc. I guess you could always run it in salt mode at newer sites too. I cant say how it may work at a nail infested site. Havent tried that one yet.

so are you saying that the cz-3d in advanced mode is giving you a "lower"
trash tone on all the aluminum? so you don't dig it? can you clarify?
thanks!

So far I have not dug a lot of aluminum that has came in at the high coins mark. I am not saying I have never dug any can slaw that came in as high tone. I have not really paid attention to every target I dug and what exactly it came in as but I can tell you that I have not dug a lot of aluminum or can slaw that rang up as high coins. I will probably go out again today and will pay more attention and let you know.

yeah! thanks bill! i was kinda curious about this because initially,
dankowski indicated that the detector is NOT meant for hunting in modern trash
choked parks, because the 3d "throws everything" to a high tone, and renders the detector
inoperable in THAT environment!.to be honest,THAT revelation is what stopped me from buying one back in '04
apparently it dumps aluminum crap to the next lowest tone,so ya don't dig it if you are concentrating
on the high tone only? just some thoughts, and IF this IS true, then somebody got it wrong?..a little
confusion in the ranks! (lol!)..just sayin'

I went out today for several hours and mostly dug the high tones which is nickel, zinc coins and above. I think I dug two pieces of can slaw that actually hit in the coins range. I did not think that was too bad at all. And yes for the most part I do just dig the high tones if I am at a public park of something which is where I hunt 99% of the time. If the area is fairly clean I will dig some lower signals. That is how I found the gold ring in my other post.

this is amazing,as it is obviously a "falsehood"
as to how this detector is supposed to function in a "trashed" park!
you have proved this! to review:if you are digging all high tones
in a aluminum junk filled park, and the targets are "good" recoveries,
then you CAN use "enhanced" mode in that setting, and successfully too!
apparently the detector does NOT throw aluminum crap to the hight tone!
any one else care to comment?..thanks!

Now you will dig some aluminum scrap in the nickel range but I think that is normal with any detector. Also the aluminum screw caps will hit high tone but they will on almost all detectors also. I can see that these detectors would not be first choice in a nail infested area. They do false on iron.

In use mine in enhenced mode all the time trash or no trash. If i get a nickel signal i can flip it into salt mode to see if it is a strange pulltab or some can slaw. Has not failed me yet.
