Guys a question...

Well-known member
I am not satisfied with the depth I am getting with dfx at all....weak signals even at 5-6 inches....I am not done trying to find depth yet and may try one more coil.... But if I am going to pick up an Explorer...does it have to be the se? Or will a 2 or xs get the depth I need...Also is the 2 newer than the xs? If I can hit 7 to 8 inches...I am sure I can triple my silver finds from this year..... The dfx is incredible for 0 to 4.0....a great detector with a small coil for surface clad... but I want more...

The 2 is newer than the XS. Your best investment after deciding which Explorer to get will be putting a sunray probe on. No way could I ever hunt without it. I have one on my SE...my XL PRO...and my CZ70PRO.

have you ever heard of the sunray interfering or causing detector to shut off... Thought I read that somewhere...

the other 999,999 posts were positive. I know at least 100 people that I've hunted with over the years and no one has ever had a problem.

will keep it...I am going to try another coil ...the 6 x 10... Someone mentioned my stock coil may be defective.... Would like to have 2 detectors anyways... I do have a whites coinmaster 6000 series 3 from 20 years ago! I might have to pull it out of the closet....:detecting:

I've never had a problem with mine. Ralph makes a great product.

My XS will hit a dime at 9 inches in decent soil but you will have to learn it before you can find stuff that deep.

Hey Greg, I have used both the DFX and The Explorer II. After using the DFX for two years here in Michigan, and even hunting with Steve Lehto, I know Steve wont like me to say this, but I can tell you without a doubt, your finds will more than triple after you learn the Explorer from Mine Lab.It just goes deeper.
I also agree with everyone else, that you will need to purchase a X-1 Probe from Sun Ray and a Deep shovel..
Ralph is a great guy at Sun Ray with a great product. He stands behind his product 100%. I recommend you buy this one before you get a smaller coil. I usually don't say that, but in this case I will. Do this its a smart move and you wont regret it. As far as shovels go, I recommend a great shovel from Predator Tools. The Relic Pro T ( MR T) with the long handle. Its a George leashe design so you know its quality. You will need this too.
One more thing and I know I'm going to hear allot of slack for this one, Toss the Koss head phones that come with the Explorer!!! Get a pair of Black Widows, The Black Widows, really take out the Basie sound out that the Koss make. The Widows put out a stronger clearer signal and make it easy to determine if the Target is a keeper or not.

If you need any help with shorting the learning curve, PM me and I'll send you my set up I use on the Explorer II.I would like to also add one more thing. Sandra at Mine Lab is the best. If you ever have any problems at all, just give her a call and she will take care of you. Mine lab has really step up to the plate and is really taking great care of there customers. their customer relations is top shelf, hands down the best Ive ever had.

I see no reason to trade up yet. I am sure which ever you buy (se, xs2, or xs) you will rock the finds out. I love my XS, when you start pulling silver from hunted out parks at good depth and next to iron you will know what I mean.

Gregg,
This why I bought the SE. The DFX with a 4x6 coil in trash is one fun machine and the depth is very good. I will never get rid of it but I wanted more depth. So far I'm struggling with the SE because it is so different from Garrett, Whites and Fisher machines. The expected depth is not there yet but it might be me and my lack of experience with the audio.

I plan to give the SE all the time it needs to show me that it can produce.

One word of caution - if your personality is such that you like to run and cover ground like a Russian infantry commander then the SE is not for you.

Paul I go very slow...more turtle like! But recover items from ground very quickly without knees ever touching ground... I go by sound so it sounds like an Explorer might work well.

Any one of the Explorers, but the Ex II does have a few advantages over the XS. I had a DFX a while ago and compared it several times by doing an old area with it first, then hitting it with my X Terra 70 and then finally the Explorer last. The DFX really did the worst out of all three. I have had White's units in the past and know them well, the DFX was tuned to the max. I sold it and rebought a XLT which was my favorite detector of all times. Now I pick from one of those three depending on where I am going. None of them have ever disappointed me. Good luck with the Explorer, and don't be afraid of the "learning curve" you can turn it on and start finding good targets right away based on your experience already.
