Ground balanceing the Cortez

the sound of the threshold while lowering the coil in all metal is the one you are monitoring. If it goes up turn the GB control to the left (counterclockwise) if it goes down turn it to the right (clockwise) and forget what other makes do or don't do.

From experiminting w/ the Cortes I learned the easyest method to ground balance
the machine is to:

#1 start w/ the GB knob turned all the way to the Left which will give you a threshold
tone as your raising the coil so you turn the knob clockwise and press the coil towards
the ground and then lift it back up your trying to get no tone going in both directions
DOWN or UP, too me this is the simplest method.

Settings:
Sensitivity knob: 9-10
Discremenate Level: Set To Minimum
Notch: Set to Center Position
Threshold: Set to a Audible Tone, Manual states 1:30 to 2:00 O'clock Position
during testing i could here the Theshold @ Minimum
Light: Set to Center Position
Mode: Set to ALL-Metal

Starting point for GROUND BALANCEING the CORTEZ
set too GB KNOB to Minimum then as you move the coil towards the
ground you hear no Threshold sound till you start to lift the coil start to
turn the knob clock wise when the coil has been raised back up too 8"
above the ground and do it again

Thans Everyone for your help
Sincerely
Dave

Turn on the detector. Put the detector in all metal mode, hold the coil about 10" or more off the ground, next turn the threshold control up until you get a slight sound.

Now bob the coil up and down, see what happens.

The tone should be the same when the coil is at lets say 10" off the ground and dropped to 3-4" above the ground. If it's different you need to turn up or turn down the GB knob. If the sound decreases when the coil is lowered, you rotate the GB knob clockwise (+). If the sound increases you turn the knob counterclockwise (-).

If you get no sound when lowering you are at the middle point of positive and negative GB. Just rotate the GB clockwise until you get a sound when lowering. Some detectors you have to bob up and down with a little speed to hear the tone near the ground as well as at 10".

It would probably be much easier if someone actually showed you how to do it if it's your first time ground balancing.

what my machine is doing is as i lower the coil to the groung the treshold gets louder and as i lift the coil back
upwards i hear no threshold tone.[.quote][size=large]... If you establish a proper Threshold audio at about 6"-8" above then lower the coil towards the ground (to about
