Gotta ask........ is the etrac worth the $

I am really considering buying one ...not because I'm unhappy with my current detector, I find alot of clad just not the elusive silver...I used to have a minelab sovereign and I never really understood the tones...or got used to them..... will it really make a difference? Or is it more about the expertise of the hunter? thanks for your responses in advance. Chilly

If you were to use the machine yes, unfortunately mine is just sitting at idle because I havent had the time. When I was swinging it though it sure did find the coins.

Every penny...... But you are getting a biased view asking on the E Trac forum. Some of the other forums wonder why we don't talk about settings and the technical side of detecting here. :clapping::minelab:. ML did that for us and built it into a machine. I will say this, it's not a beep and dig detector like 99% of them out there. This dog WILL hunt!!!!!

Yes !

I tried most of the high end detectors and always felt like I was missing something. I'm not anymore...I will not be getting rid of this detector!

The Etrac is worth it's weight in gold.........and probably weighs about the same!!!

Gaz.

Hi Chilly.
The E Trac is worth the bucks, but if you have a problem with the tones then it is not for you I would suggest you try it
before you buy it. Learning the tones on the E Trac or any of the Explorers will find you the goodies and the deepies.
Not being able to get on with the tones will only leave you very frustrated.
Good Luck.

I have an XS, an EX II, and the E-trac. I would echo what my other fine enthusiasts have said. Out of the last 7 hunts, and I only have 20 hours or so on the ET, I have found silver on 6 of them. EVEN with my XS and EX II, I did not match up with that. Silver has increased and I am not even up to speed yet. I am also digging deeper coins with consistency.

The one issue I have with the machine is the falsing, but that is something which can be overcome with use, and I am pushing the machine still to learn the nuances.

I tried to buy a used one, and as soon as they appeared, they were bought, so I finally just said to heck with it, and bought a new one. At the end of the day, I don't drink, my wife won't let me have a girlfriend, I don't smoke, and metal detecting is my main passion for play. I have about $1800 tied up in my Trac now, with the X-1 and all, and I would do it again. I didn't even tell my sweety about it before I got it. Gotta love that woman. All she said was: "I see you got a new metal detector, hope you have fun with it." That was not near the reaction I got when I hid a Kubota Tractor in my barn for 3 months before she found it.....what a gal!

I can hardly wait until I have a couple hundred hours on this beast! I may bring the Kubota with a front end bucket to dig the deep signals, or to carry all the loot!

Get you some of that!

The E-Trac is an awesome machine it has the ability to find the deep stuff and separate the good among the junk.

Is it worth the 1,400 dollar price tag? That is a matter of opinion. Will it perform? Yes, and it is exceptional.

You know what they say, THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MEN AND BOYS IS THE PRICE OF THEIR TOYS !

No it's not worth it! It's a tube with a plastic box and a wire covered with plastic and epoxy. The parts cost maybe $25-50 to make. But I personally would pay the $ again if I had to. I enjoy detecting for old coins and currently the E-Trac appears to be the best machine out there for this.

As for it making a difference to you Chillyhiker... I'm sure you know that ANY metal detector can find coins. If you are not getting silver coins it could be that you are not hunting in the right places, or digging enough targets. The point is it could be something other than the machine. On the other hand, a new E-Trac might be just the thing to add to your hobby that gets you finding that silver.

I am pretty sure if you get one, you won't be disappointed. I've only seen a couple of people that didn't like it on here, and one of those was a troll IMO that didn't really give it a chance.

Oh, one should always include a Sunray probe, and Lesche digger to total cost of owning an E-Trac making the final price about the same as a good used car! :surprised:

Of course it's worth it. Check out my Youtube channel featuring my E-Trac hunts for proof.

Elad's Metal Detecting Adventures

BTW, this detector is not heavy. I used a GarrettGTI2500 and that thing is freaking heavy! The E-Trac very well balanced, and as long as you switch arms every 30 mins or so, you can go (or at least I can) for 4 straight hours of swinging. I am sure there are lighter detectors out there, but the E-Trac is so worth the extra pound. (You can also reduce the weight by using lighter batteries if you really wanted to)

Also, windycitydetectors will sell the E-Trac for 1250ish, if you call them.

One more thing, using a handheld pinpointer, like a garrett pro-pointer for example, will greatly reduce the weight of your E-Trac as well, and besides, who actually wants annoying cords on an E-Trac??

You should try one out first. If you did not like the Soveriegn and it's sounds then I think you really should try an E-Trac out before you buy one. JMHO Good Luck with your decision. HH :minelab:

Good advice. The etrac is an expensive machine and it is similiar to the sov, your gonna have to put time in on it to learn it.

Here is what I think,
The machine can be used by anyone and find stuff and so can many other machines. If you are a casual detectors out hunting once in a while then there are plenty of good machines for less money.
If you are serious about detecting and use technology to increase your finds and probability, and you will use the options on the machine and learn them and try them then yes its worth it.
It is a great machine and very simple no matter what others say...all you have to do is try the options and read a little about them to see what may work for you. But if you want to really dial it in for the difficult areas then it has the ability to be adjusted for that as well and (as you can read past finds on posts) can do very well at that.

Bottom line is YES.

BUT if you are in Utah then you should stick with what you are using!

good luck
