Yeehoo!!
Got my Goldbug SE back today...works great, got it back in less than two weeks. My unit worked great in All Metal, but had the issue with silver in discriminate...now it works great in disc. I just want to say, Fisher said they would make things right, and they did. I am quite pleased with my purchase (this is my first ever new detector, and for me a pretty big investment, and I am very happy with my investment). I spoke with Daniel in the repair dept. a couple of times and he was quite helpful, and took his time answering my questions, and answered thoroughly and I appreciate that. Im going prospecting and ghost towning in eastern Oregon in a few weeks, and I planning on bringing home some of that yellow metal, or something ghost town-y.
What features I like best about the Goldbug...
I really like the Ground Grab balance system....prior to reading Dave J.'s booklet "Prospecting with a VLF detector", I really wanted a "tracking" detector....in his book he really thoroughly explained the problems with the tracking systems, and I changed my mind. I also like being able to manually tweek my GB setting.
I like the 5" round coil, I have used a 6x4 "shooter DD coil, which is good at getting into nooks and crannies, but with the round coil, you can get into those same areas, but from any angle, horizontally, vertically with a minimum of wrist, and forearm adjustments, I found that it is much more versatile in those tite areas.. the oblong coils, even with the small oblong coils there are areas that are in between the width dimension and the length dimension (I think that there might be a "physical law" that causes this) that you have to jockey the coil around to get at them.
The weight, when climbing over boulders, downed trees, accross slippery rocks in a stream, I barely notice its even there (I had a Goldmaster II @ 4lbs). I have yet to wear my shoulder or arms out with this machine (Im 55, so Im paying attention this this more). I wear the rest of body out doing the afore mentioned things way before I notice the weight of the detector.
I also really like the display information...this is my first detector with a visual display, and there really is alot of useful info there. I especially like the ground phase/balance info and being able to observe the changes in ground phase as you hunt, and being able to see your gain/sensitivity and threshold settings.
I am happy with the sensitivity with the machine, just from my own test garden, I have some pretty small pieces of lead shot in the ground (less that 5 grains) and it picks them up easily (no gold yet).
And also, now that Ive used it, the service. Its good to know that I can trust the service and warranty.
