Hurray, I got my gold bug se back yesterday morning at like 7am...lol Its kinda diffrent in that it has a dic in all metal mode. I don't kow if its suppose to or not. Also its got some more depth on the gold nugget. Id say about 3 inches. Plus it also seems to be a bit more quieter and user friendly. The best part is I have a sour cream container filled with black sand, and i can turn down the gain, and GB it out. I can get a hit on the gold nugget which is cool..:clapping: I bought some cool head phones for it to help and fisher also through in a new hat...When I first got it i could crank up the threshold and gb it quite easy. Now im having some trouble, but its able to run at about 45-60 in the threshold around my house.(Their is alot of crap in my yard like nails washers, and other iron which im not digging up) I aslo got a new coil with the detector which is way cool.. The biggest plus is I could barly get about 2 inches, with a bigger nugget, now I can get like 5 or 6 which is a sign of relief for me.. I think it could use some more tweking and tunning to help this detector really take off the ground. I also bought a lithium battery for it I hope it helps. Any suggestions would be very helpful.. But Yea I missed it and can't wait for my next outing.. I might go out latter tonite when it gets cool to a creek that runs into a lake.. I have found some small gold their, and their is a lot of quartz veins all over so we will see..

I am envious! I sent mine back on August 4th and I am having some issues tracking its decent to El Paso. Not sure how long it will take in actual work time to fix?? Any ideas? Is it a quick 1/2hr fix in the lab? Anyone know?

I don't know I sent mine in about 3 weeks ago and got it back yesterday.. I also just read the enclosed letter attached to the box, and I even got a new housing box, or control pannal... Kinda cool..

...yours should move through quicker than ours did as we had to wait for FT to review a solid fix for the problem. I would expect it to be at Fisher a week or so...maybe less depending on any backlog...just my opinion

Thanks for the reassurance Azsh07!. Onl;y another 20 or 30 sleeps left before it gets back to my point lol

...you will be getting a completely different performing super stud machine!!!! :detecting:
O.K...well maybe a bit of an overstatement but...as you can see from everone else who got them back...it is like a whole new machine!!! Which really it is now performing the way it was supposed to originally

I just don't care to much about the coins and stuff. I'm glad mine can at lest find gold. I had a piece on the ground before and could barley get a single. Now I can get a good 4 to 7 inches depending.. I got some new headphones that have a volume control on them, and i like cranking it up full blast. I don't really have to here to the buzz.. Its a new machaine all together pretty much. I got a new coil, and a control box.:starwars: So we will see how it preforms.. Im ready to take it out and see how it dose with new detectists...:detecting:

I got a call back from Felix at Fisher. They told me that they are "retroing it out" what ever that means. He said that they include a printout of what they repired on it. Just a waiting game now for it to get shipped back to me. Took 14 days to get down there. Probably 14 days to get back. In retro spec, I am happy that I sent it in. God will only know what I missed with this unit. Sigh!

but with them needing to be sent back to the factory right form the start I think maybe I should wait a month or two until this bad batch of detectors works it's way through the system and the Dealers get good ones on their shelves. This reminds me of the Shadow X-5's when they first came out. The first 300 had problems and had to be sent back in for modification. Unfortunately I was one of those who had bought early and was in the first 300 group :( Not sure I want to go through that again with the GB SE. Any ideas on how long it will be before the Dealers will have good properly working new detectors in stock?

and it's already known that some degree of the initial shipment of SE's wouldn't hit on extremely high conductors (silver halves and even more so, silver dollars) properly. Many of the consumer held units have been returned, retuned, and are back in the hands of their owners. Most of the unsold dealer stock has gone the same route. All you need to be aware of and do, is deal with a reputable honest dealer and he'll know if the units he has to sell you are up to spec either due to being re-worked or shipped after the problem was discovered and remedied. The unit I have was returned and now that I have it back, I can attest to the fact that it's the real deal. I wouldn't hesitate at all to own another just like it.

I agree with you that you have to find a good reputable Dealer. One who wouldn't sell you one that he had bought before they knew about the problems and who hasn't sent his in for repair but is willing to sell them and let it fall on the buyer to send it in for repair. The Dealers that I have been purchasing detectors from for years aren't Fisher Dealers which leaves me in the unenviable position of either waiting until all the first shipment of detectors have been sold and getting one for the second shipment which I am sure will have had the problem addressed or trying to find a good reputable dealer who has either had all their machines fixed or who didn't get their detectors until after the problem had been found corrected. Not sure which course of action I will take.

my local dealer no longer sells FTP. I guess there are others but I don't know them or anything about them.

You all know that Mr. Bill at Surfscanner is a Fisher dealer. We know he was one of the first to find out about the issue....he sent his stock back. SO.....it would seem that he would be the best bet to get an SE from.
If any dealer would be safe to get one from now I would think he would be the top of the list. He certainly isn't going to send out first run stock....so if he has some they would be from a repaired /reworked or new batch. Plus...now he knows what to look for before one ships......correct.
most other dealers would have little idea of what we were seeing....certainly Kellyco would not.

I had ordered a Gold Bug from Mr. Bill and when the news came out about the unit not tuned properly and not being able to hit bigger silver, he actually CALLED me on the phone and spoke to me about the problem. He then told me even though he corrected my unit in his shop, he sent mine back to FT to make sure everything was ok. He also tested my unit prior to sending it to me. My unit works perfectly.

There are a lot of great dealers out there, and Bill is at the top of my list.

I have an SE and a Cabela's version. Cabelas does NOT have modulated audio. On the plus side the hi tone does not drop in pitch on deeper targets which on the SE with some headphones was hard for me to hear the difference between the two tones on deep targets.
I fiddled with different headphones and found a pair that I could get a little bit better sound difference from.
Other than that the two versions are now identical in depth. The SE takes some careful listening to on real deep stuff whereas the Cabelas is loud on any depth. Bad part on the Cabelas audio is no modulation so you have to keep peaking at the signal meter bars to get an idea if it is shallow or deep.
I like both versions actually...wish I had both audio options in one as I have uses for both. For hunting fields I don't care about modulation as i dig all targets so I like having a deep button or coin hitting loud. Whereas other situations I ignore shallow targets and in that case the SE is way better.
So keep em both I guess...but either one is a great machine.
I told you guys since January that the GB was deep.

To start with, there wasn't that many of these troubled units sold before the glitch was caught. There are no first batch of detectors to be sold. The factory picked up all they could, having FedEx collect then at no cost to the dealer. There shouldn't be any left over. One could tell right away with a silver 1/2 Dollar or silver Dollar. It just plain won't pick them up.

The new Gold Bug SE's are being shipped to Distributors & Dealers as I pen this post. A few of the sponsors here at Finds will have them. Indian Nations Detectors, Click for Indian Nations Detectors and Backwoods Detector Sales, Click for Backwoods Detector Sales , and I have some on the way. Oh yes, KellyCo. does, also.
