Got my Gold Bug Problem Video uploaded

Even the original GB SE's, if used like a nugget detector would have been used, (All Metal mode), would respond to All Metal tatgets. The problem was, when it was in the discrimination mode, the unit was adjusted to clip out high conductive targets such as the silver coins you discovered. That's all behind us now. :clapping:

Can someone tell me the difference between conductive and non-conductive as it relates to metal detecting? Why is gold more or less conductive then silver? I am trying to wrap my head around this.

Gold, as in 24k, pure, is a high conductive item. Once it becomes mixed with any other metal, the conductivity of it drops considerably. Any one that searches for gold jewelry is aware of where is come in on the discrimination scale. Sometimes right at the top of iron. This apples to all high conductive metals.

That mix can be high mineralization in the rock the gold is found in, or the metal that jewelry is alloyed with.

Not only that but my book says "Keep the searchcoil away from wall's, floors, and metal objects". And to turn off all lights and appliances. I see reebar and the lights on in the garadge. Was just a up keep on the fisher gbse.... Plus don't use indoors.

So conductive refers to how much of the metal detectors frequency or 'waves' are absorbed? Is this right? Or am I way off on this? So, essentially, there are no issues with the gold Bug SE picking up gold? Just Silver?

It was long ago discovered what caused it, and it was taken care of. In fact it was handled the day it was discovered. Just a flunky adjustment during manufacture. It just tends to get blown out, and kept active on the forum pages. Some are just discovering it, others never will. Had it not been mentioned on the forum here, I would have never noticed it. I would have never thought to use it silver hunting, I'm a beach jewelry hunter. :)

Good to know. My soul purpose for this machine was to nugget hunt, however, the added bonus was jewerly and coin hunting. Thus, a toss up between this machine and Whites MXT.

Mr. Bill:

I'm curious, will all the Gold Bug SEs made prior to discovery of the manufacture adjustment problem need to be returned for adjustment, if one wants to detect silver coins, or only some of them?

Just got mine in the mail this morning. Nice looking unit and a small coil for getting into the nook and crannies. I can;t wait to get off of work to go try it out!:clapping:

I was told it was a case of (1) one tek. out of (3) three, receiving the wrong setup information. He received the setup info for the Omega 8000.. He set the phase adjustment to Omega 8000 standards instead of Gold Bug SE standards. Just re-setting the adjustment to proper standards, took care of the problem.

No matter, the Gold Bug SE was not designed for silver coin hunting, although it will find them. For that, I would use the Omega 8000, T-2 or the F75.

I was one of the lucky ones that got one of the lemons last wed and it was shipped back to fisher to be fixed.
I should get it back by the end of next week, ( i hope ).
I love my Fisher's but the SE i received had the worst QC of any detector i have ever seen so i will have to reconsider any future Fisher purchases.

I am hoping that my detector was programmed by the other 2/3s of the techs! It took two weeks to get here from the states, I can't imagine having to send it back, which will take weeks, then wait a few more weeks to get it back up here. Summer will be long gone by then...

My only complaint, the rubber washer that is supposed to go between the rod and the coil was missing, otherwise, asthetically, all is well. I guess I can buy a rubber washer from Home depot?
