First time out ever, with new toy I got today. Found a penny right off, then lots of trash. A gold earing of an angel. A bunch of foil, a couple cans, several pieces of heavy wire, and an old iron punch.

And 20 cents.

Did an elementary school playground in the mulch, and surface of a little league football field (both are only about a year or two old). Then the mulch in the playground in my subdivision, found 19 cents there.

Using Bounty Hunter Tracker IV, discrimination off, and sensitivity full blast.

I keep all my trash and haul it out. Not leaving it behind. Same as littering, to me.

Your doing ok:detecting: we all start at that level:clapping:

Going to look for a gold nugget ring that fell off a finger several Christmases back. I know the general area of where it went. It should pay off my machine, 3 or 5 times over.

Then across the street is an old city playground that has been around for at least 30 years. I used to make out with my girlfriends there in High School. I should be able to find all kinds of good stuff there (likely NOT as good as the stuff i found when I was in high school:cheekkiss:)

This stuff is FUN!!!

Good luck with those sites hope no ones beaten you there:detecting:

It is a VERY small town, I doubt anyone scans that area.

Pretty sure nobody found that ring, or I would have heard about it. Likely has been mowed over 50 times (likely more), and sunk into the ground a couple inches. Shouldn't be a problem with my machine. It is very sensitive with anything less than 8" deep.

I will post a picture if I find it. I hope it is a nice gold nugget ring like I remember, and not a pawn shop knockoff....

Soon to be a seasoned:buds: pro,Good luck!

Yes, me too. Luckily, I ended up married to one of the chicks I took to this park:devil:

Gonna take her back this weekend and make her dig at what I find!!!:twodetecting:

BEWARE! This hobby can be VERY addicting - as in "if one detector is good, two (or more) is even better." Good luck and have fun.

It does seem to be addicting.

BUT!!! The good thing is it is pretty hot around here, and I have spent the entire summer indoors drinking beer and watching TV, or on the internet. I usually wakeboard or at least go boating once or twice a week, mow the yard twice a week (half acre), play basketball with my students at school, etc. This year, with the drought, the grass is dead, so I mow maybe once every two weeks, and then on a rider mower and I don't have to use the push mower much. Too hot to take the kids out to play basketball, so we tend to stay inside. And the lake has dried up to where the boat launches are not usable, so we have not been able to take the boat out.

Well, yesterday, after I got this toy, I actually WENT OUTSIDE for a couple of hours!!! I just walked around and bent over and kneeled, and was actually a little sore when I got home.

So this thing may actually be a motivator to get me outside and getting a little exercise.

I think I can actually use this with my kids at school to help motivate them to get outside, as well. I am a counselor (psychotherapist, not school counselor) at a private school, and I am sure several of my kids would get a kick out of messing around with this in the playgrounds.

And after I got home with my pockets full of treasure, the wife was wishing she had gone with me, so we might be able to make a family affair out of this. :detecting::detecting::inlove:

Looks good. That is a big alignment pin you got there....and I would like to shoot Capri sun..there packages are most annoying and not very biodegradable.
And yes, detecting is my number 1 exercise routine.
besides pressing buttons on the remote.

I left to go to work an hour early today. Across the street is a city park with lots of mulched swing areas and merry go rounds, etc. Found $1.05 in change and 2 old railroad spikes (these were deep!). Lots of bobby pins, poptops, etc. I packed them all out and pocketed the change. It is an old park, and I was hoping for some rings that may have popped off fingers while pushing kids.

So, YES!!! Exercise. Most mornings I would have sat in front of the laptop drinking tea for that hour, instead of getting off my butt and going outside walking around, doing squats and swinging my arms around.

Hi Scooper, and welcome to the best hobby in the world! You looking good right off and those good habits will always pay off. Some trash and junk will always be dug no matter where you hunt but the goodies always show up sooner or later.LOL,too many times latter instead of sooner, but the wait is always worthwhile. In case you don't realize it yet,let me say that the goodies will come much easier, sooner, and better, with good solid Research, which is many times as much fun as detecting. History is literally under your feet, but you have to have some idea of "where to walk"., so start with walking into your Local Library,History and Geneaology Room if they have one. Old Maps, and Old People, especially kinfolks, online websites, like these Forums, and on and on I could go. These Forums are loaded with some real smart folks and are always glad to help out new hands, so have at'em with any and all questions you think of. Happy Hunting to you and remember that Research, is the tool that can fire you up as well as that battery fires up your detector. HH, Charlie

if the boat docks are low, hit the swimming areas ---lots of goodies. Is it fresh water or salt? gotta dig trash to dig treasure. save your pull tabs for Ronald McDonald houses, they get a nickle a piece donated by Coke for them. adds up for a worthy charity. something gold first ime out is sweet find. your on the right track. get the lady a simple unit, Compadre or something, and let her go at it. or step your unit on up and give her yours, like a lays potato chip, cant have just one! good luck, welcome to the addiction!

Scooper, "Exercise" is great and detecting will give you plenty of it but my Advice was to enform you of the Importance of RESEARCH. Since you already know your park is very old, some RESEARCH done at your local Library, or some of those other places I mentioned , may inform you of some hint about from where the "deep" railroad spikes may have come from, and maybe even the location of some facilities, even maybe a Train Depot (People) that may have been there long before your "Old" park. You can learn so much sometimes from just a little REsearch. HH, Charlie

Ring wasn't there, or if it was, it was way deeper than my detector could pick up. The bushes near where it landed have been yanked up and new landscaping, so I assume it either got tilled down deeper into the ground, or some landscaper found a nice tip for his work!

The playground had lots of stuff buzzing hard, the way coins buzz, but the ground was hard packed with just a 1/4" loose dust on top. It hasn't rained here since February, and I don't plan on renting a jackhammer...

Go back there when the ground is moist a metal detector goes a little deeper when the ground is moist, hope u find it Scooper!
