Got my Excal II Today!

Goldak

New member
Got a call from my wife telling me that it had arrived today so it was a long, long, afternoon at work.;) I had read all the operator's manual and watched some web videos so as soon as I got home I assembled it and started testing different objects I had found with other detectors.
I spent an hour in my living room listening to the different tones (in disc) and was surprised at how I was catching on to the subtle differences pretty quickly. I had my daughter test me with my eyes closed and I did pretty well at separating the gold from most coins. Funny how the smaller gold rings (deepest tones) were much easier to identify than the larger ones (medium tones). The medium tones included the nickles and pull tabs as well. The high tones included coins and silver jewelry. I was also surprised at the depth the detector seemed to get and the sensitivity it had for small gold items. If the detector behaves similarly in the field it's going to add a whole new dimension to my treasure hunting.
Can anyone tell me if platinum and gold sound alike on the Excal II? Thanks and HH!

With the Excal if it beeps dig it. No science involved. You can skip the high tone clad if you want , but you might be passing up silver jewelry. The zincolns are the real junk on the beach.

Platinum does sound different from gold, i only have found a few but when i did i said to myself that really sounds different. Hopefully you will find some and you will hear it...........Good luck

ok heres the info, if you get a tone in disc mode you dig it no matter what,if your hunting in all metal mode you check it in disc if you get a tone dig it,if it nulls out you keep on walking, but the trick is to walk slow and pay attention to the slightest change in the threshold this is a deep target or nice deep ring, youll never evr know unless you dig, youll dig allot of pull tabs at first till you really learn the tones but i still dig them only cause its a close call on a good target..you might try getting the training ear cd for the excalibur..it has helped me lots of times and read all the books and watch all the you tube videos you can and re watch them then just go out and spend lots and lots of time at the beach then most of all just have a great time and enjoy....:clapping::detecting:

Thanks guys. There is this one lake where I recently found $23.00 in quarters (plus many other coins of course) in 2 days but not a single piece of gold. The lake bottom is rocky so the digging can really wear a person out. I know that there has to be more gold in there. I've only found 1 gold ring there amongst hundreds and hundreds of coins over the years. I thought that it would be nice to skip the coins and just listen for the gold and it seems somewhat plausible with the Excal II. I'm even wondering if someone else is already doing this and that would explain the lack of gold at this particular location. I'm going to try this out in the near future and I will let you all know how it goes. HH!

As far as the tone of Platinum .....I passed on a Platinum ring that my partner ended up scooping .....I was tired of digging 12/15 pull tabs ...I had almost 100 of them in my pouch !!.....That was the number of the day !!.....EVERY 12/15 was a pull tab ....The LAST dig of the day, and I was too tired as we were leaving the beach and I had a very small scoop at the time ....My partner dug it ....It was a 13 grm large Mens Platinum wedding band !!! I was SICK !!...... That's the one you NEVER forget !!.....Jim
