Got a call from my wife telling me that it had arrived today so it was a long, long, afternoon at work.
I had read all the operator's manual and watched some web videos so as soon as I got home I assembled it and started testing different objects I had found with other detectors.
I spent an hour in my living room listening to the different tones (in disc) and was surprised at how I was catching on to the subtle differences pretty quickly. I had my daughter test me with my eyes closed and I did pretty well at separating the gold from most coins. Funny how the smaller gold rings (deepest tones) were much easier to identify than the larger ones (medium tones). The medium tones included the nickles and pull tabs as well. The high tones included coins and silver jewelry. I was also surprised at the depth the detector seemed to get and the sensitivity it had for small gold items. If the detector behaves similarly in the field it's going to add a whole new dimension to my treasure hunting.
Can anyone tell me if platinum and gold sound alike on the Excal II? Thanks and HH!
