Got busted... I mean, busted a cap... I mean...

[size=large]Well, what I'm trying to say is I found a capped bust dime today, YEEEHAW! WHO's YOUR DADDY NOW! Went to the old stage depot where I found the large cent, and a half a ton of flat buttons. digging was pretty slow, I found 5 or 6 buttons, half of a twisted ornate belt buckle, and finally got a good signal in a little ditch beside the dirt road. Dug down 6 or 7" and up pops this dirty little disc. I picked it up and wiped it off with my thumb thinking it was another flat button, then could see it was an 1820 cap bust dime! My oldest detected coin to date.

I am finding prices on the internet ranging from $200 to $1100 for this coin. Anyone have a little expertise on coins, and give me a rough grading from the second photo?

F-12 fine - Full Liberty. Ear and shoulder clasp visible. Part of rim shows both sides.

VF-20 Very Fine - LIBERTY distinct. Full rim. Ear and clasp plain and distinct.

EF-40 Extra Fine - LIBERTY sharp. Ear Distinct. Hair above eye well defined.

With that said, I'd probably grade it at VF-20 and depending on how much ground conditions have hurt it..... dug coins usually drop a grade so I'd be guessing a solid F-12. I'd be careful cleaning it. It looks like an 1820 lg. "0" and in F-12 condition worth about 58.00 dollars. Of course something is worth what you can get for it if you decide to sell it. I'd keep it. Great find and I'm sure there's more out there.
