Got Another X-Terra 70

Heya B.T I'm just hangin for that little 6" coil to hit the shelves! And am looking forward to see how the little one handles itself out in the fields. Instead of the 10x5 DD 18.75kHz I'm Leaning towards the 10x5 7.5kHz or even the 3 kHz for that little extra depth. I figure if I do go the 10x5 its gotta be a different frequency just out of curiosity sake. I have been to a few areas as of late but mostly scouting at this stage. I have a week coming up in june and am as keen as mustard to swing all week with no distractions!
Cheers!

is not occupational related these days. I-pods & MP3 players are doing tremendous damage to young people, it's an epidemic. Whether you are an old 60's rocker standing for hours in front of a Marshall stack, or teenager with a small transducer stuck in your ear, the effect is the same, a dB is a dB no matter how it is delivered.

G,day again Nugget. The little 10x5 is really hard to go past and has to be, for gold, the best all rounder. I am talking only gold here though. I had the 10" 7.5 and did like it but it was only better than the 10x5 18.75 on larger targets over 2 to 3 oz. This was at a great sacrifice to smaller bits where quite a few species I had found with the 10x5 did not register or only just did. These were not just a bit of quartz with 1/20th of a g in them, some had 2 to3 grams in either crystal form or very small veins. There was no doubting the 7.5 10" ability on large deep targets as it was easily seen on things like old powder flask halves, bigger test bits of gold(unfortunately I did not find any biggies with it and had to settle for testers which I am often loathe to do unless there is no other option, testing on your own buried targets can sometimes be your friend or foe and will never ever take the place of in field results). What I liked about the 10" 18.75 was its ability to still get the hard to get bits with just a fraction of sens loss and its ability to also go a bit deeper on large targets.
I have noticed with both the 10" coils , 18.75 and 7.5, that they pick up much more interference than the small elliptical 10x5 does.
Near power lines the 10x5 will purr at high sens settings whereas the 10" 7.5 will get the definate jitters and false pops and pips. Even the 10" round 18.75 will do this near power sources. I can actually turn my 70 on in the house with the 10x5 on it and run it on 30 sens and then just turn it about to find a quite spot and it purrs away. The 10" 7.5 goes nuts on any setting above 15 inside. I know, "who wants to detect inside?" but it just shows the actuall difference in their sens to electrical and other types of similar sources.
I am looking forward to the 6" 18.75 coil too and will snap one up as soon as its released. Should be a fun little extra.
Have a good one Nugget and enjoy your great state you live in, lucky dog.

Hi B.T.

Thank you for your great posts on your success finding gold with the X-Terra 70. Great stuff!

I think some of what you post regarding the 10" round DD coil reflects the difference in hunting circumstances between the US and Oz. Many people here would dream of ever finding a 1 oz nugget while you would list them in the lower end of your range of finds. If all you see is an increase of depth on 1 oz plus nuggets and a possible loss of depth on tiny stuff then most people here would be better off with the elliptical coil.

Just shows how different circumstances call for different solutions.

Anyway, once agian thank you for your excellent posts!

G,day Steve. Your spot on about differences in countries. Some places I have read about in Europe don't have gold any bigger than a grain of rice. And yeah, there would be zero point in getting a coil that goes deeper on larger bits in that type of situation. I know we do get the bigger gold over here and it might be that a lot of overseas hunters have visions of all our gold being big. I can confirm some great finds in the last 2 months from within a 50km radius of where I live.
A 110oz, 77oz, 23oz, 13oz and a 9oz. But, those were found on private land where the guys had special permission to detect. We still do get a lot of small stuff over here with gold in the .1 of a gram to 5 grams making up about 80% of what is found. There is a strong rumour, which I am 80% convinced about being true, of a 2000 oz find. It was in a reef and had to be broken out leaving one bit at over 800oz with the rest being busted out in chunks up to 30 or so oz. If it gets 100% confirmed it will rewrite our books over here for the biggest bit found with a detector which used to belong, the title, to the Hand of Faith which was 700 and something oz which is now in the Golden Nugget casino in the US. I was told though that this latest big find was found in conjunction with a "BIG YELLOW DETECTOR" (bulldozer). It probably seems strange that being over here I hunt for the weird, mostly smaller stuff and am using and X Terra 70 to do it but I love that type of hunting. Finding crystalline gold, rich veined specimens and other types like that. I suppose its a bit like one bloke liking to fish for Marlin and the other for Trout. Two ends of the scale but both have as much fun as the other.
Have a good one Steve.
