Got out for a short hunt tonite and was just digging period parts and pieces when I dug a funny signal. Popped my first civil war eagle coat button so slowed down a hoovered the area and pulled the second and then the shield finished out the evening.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly. One of my favorite soundtracks by Ennio Morricone. Looks like you did pretty good for a short hunt. Congrats on the eagle buttons. Pretty exciting to pop those out. Can you make out a year on the Shield Nickel?

Congratulations on some very nice finds.

Howdy laplander--
Congratulations on your FIRST Civil War era Eagle Button! If there is a backmark and you provide it, I can give you an approximate date of production? Also, good going on the Shield nickel. In 35 years of detecting, I've only dug 2 of them and neither has a legible date. Best of luck and...
Happy Hunting!
