Hey Ranger, when you hunt in town like that do you draw a crowd? or do people just go on and not pay attention? There are a couple of places in town here that I would like to hunt but I don't like the thought of a bunch of eyeballers.

Hi Blade310, 99.9% of the people that you talk to say that they always wanted to detect, but just never got in to it.And the other 0.009% of people just don't make a big poop anyway. If you are not braking any law what dose it matter what people think. Do your thing, Be happy don't worry.

I do draw an audiance a lot of the time but mostly what it is , is a kid magnet. Kids are enormously curious about what you're doing and how you do it. Earlier in the week I went to a new park in town and ended up with 6 kids following me around. They were no trouble, just curious. Other than than, people ask if i"m finding anything and the most common question is what's the most interesting / valuable thing I've found. I may or may not come close to the truth on those. All in all, they tend to be friendly and curious.

:usaflag:I see nothing but envy in the eyes of all who see me detecting. They wanna be us..

I used to feel funny when people would see me out detecting, but not any more. Like MrGee says, most people are curious and say "that's neat, I always wanted to do that". I think the rewards far outweigh the price!

Yeha it seems the kids are the ones that
really hag around which is fine with me
as long as they arent obnoxious or in
the way

Yea I guess i'm still a little new at detecting I'm sure I'll lighten up down the road. I did have a couple little guys come up to me the other day and ask if I was a metal detection guy, I said I sure am. I let them both use my pro pointer on a target and they each found a penny. I let them keep the pennys. when I left they were talking about getting there parents to get them a detector. That was kinda cool.

Hey I did that last weekend! Three hunts and only sites I could walk to. I did great and even found a silver coin where I wasn't expecting one. This weekend I visited my most distant site which is 62 miles from home. I drove! Also found a silver coin.

I am surprised how many people come up and ask if I am finding anything, I think McDave hit the nail on the head when he said people are envious of us and our hobby. I am hunting an area right now where the state is clearing land to widen the highway and every time I have been there at least 3 people have pulled off the highway and really went out of their way to see what I was finding.................Bill
